Fibre 1 Broadband keeps dropping

I've just got set up in a new flat, and when the broadband works it works really well. But every so often, particularly if I'm streaming something onto my laptop, the broadband will drop and the router will flash between orange and purple before eventually going back to blue.

Given that I'm supposed to be on an unlimited deal, I'm not sure why this would be happening? The strange thing is, I can stream exactly the same thing onto an iPad for example, and it hasn't dropped nearly as regularly, if at all. I have maybe 5-6 devices overall connected to the WiFi, but will only use 1-2 at the same time. So I really doubt my usage is all that heavy, yet somehow the router seems to struggle.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Fibre 1 Broadband keeps dropping

Hi @-PaddyB-,

Welcome back to the Community.

Sorry to hear that your broadband connection is dropping out.

Could you dial 17070 from a corded phone to check if the line is silent? The dropping connection could be caused by noise on the line.

Thanks

Matt

Re: Fibre 1 Broadband keeps dropping

Hi, I'm afraid I don't have a have a landline to check with. Is there any other way to check?

Re: Fibre 1 Broadband keeps dropping

@-PaddyB-,

The best way to test for noise on the line is by doing the quite line test as our remote tests can miss noise on the line. Noise on the line is one of the most common causes of broadband issues.

It might be best to either report a fault via MyBT or by calling us on 0800 800 150 hopefully, our tests will pick up something on the line.

Thanks

Matt

Re: Fibre 1 Broadband keeps dropping

Hi, so I bought a landline and have run the quiet line test. Right now, all seems fairly quiet. Is there anything in particular I should be listening for? Not that there was anything to hear; all was pretty silent. Would it be worth trying again later? The drops in signal seem to come later on, at about 8ish which is when I'd usually start streaming football - which I assumed was what was causing it.

What would my next step be if all remains quiet on the line? Thanks.

Re: Fibre 1 Broadband keeps dropping

Check for quiet test when you drop connection about 8ish and see if any noise or anything starting or switching off about that time  the quiet line test should be totally silent apart from announcement

Have you tried using the test socket to see if connection still drops

Re: Fibre 1 Broadband keeps dropping

Hi, yes I read about the test socket yesterday and did try that. All seemed to be working fine until literally within 5 seconds of starting a football stream on my iPad, then I got the flashing orange/purple lights. This then continued on and off at varying intervals throughout the evening.
