MODEM ( modulator/demodulator)... as the ONT is optical , (AFAIK) there isn’t ,in the accepted sense, any modulation/demodulation taking place , so the OR person is probably correct when stating the ONT isn’t a ‘modem’....( although I accept its a little pedantic to mention it )

The ONT modulates and demodulates the optical signal, so yes, it is a modem.

Your Google WiFi is not designed for 900Mb throughput so the internal componets cannot handle those speeds.
