IP Address

I Have a BTHomeHub6DX with IP Address 192.168.1.254

I've connected an old Netgear Ready NAS Duo storage (containing many files) to my Desk Top PC using ethernet cable. It appears to have connected successfully, but when I click on the application 'Browse' to view the contents, I am shown the following message.

"The NAS Device you selected is on a different subnet. To access this device change your IP address to 192.168.168.x, click "Rescan" and try again.

How do I change to a different subnet on the BTHomeHub6DX to the rquired setting and how safe is it to do so?

Thank you - Dave

Re: IP Address

@davemale

Welcome to this user forum.

It would be much better to simply go into the NAS and alter the network settings. Unless you have manually set it up before, it should default to getting its IP address from the home hub DHCP server.

I assume you have also connected it via the BT Home hub, otherwise its not going to get an IP address. You cannot simply connect it directly to your PC.

Re: IP Address

Thanks Keith

.....simply go into the NAS. If only it was that so simple. Although the software appears to work with the RAIDar system showing and recognising the storage disc with 'green lights and THE ReadyNAS Duo itself clearly functioning with a steady 'green light. I need to find another solution possibly with NETGEAR or BT.

Re: IP Address

The NAS obtains it's IP address in one of two ways, either automatically via DHCP in which case it will obtain an address in the correct subnet from the hub, alternatively it needs to be given a static IP address of 192.168.1.xx where XX is between 1 and 62. It also would need the subnet mask tone set to 255.255.255.0 and the gateway address set to 192.168.1.254.

I suggest you factory reset the NAS and start again, I suspect it will default to auto address configuration.

Re: IP Address

Thanks licquorice
I'd contemplated doing that, but as mentioned originally, I have many files on the NAS, and Netgear warn that those would/might be lost on after a 'factory reset'. Perhaps, if I can find the solution to downloading them onto a USB, it's something I may have to do.
Kind Regards - Dave
