Hi,
Would you be so kind and share some details on how did you change the firmware? I'd like to do it for my JBL Bar 3.1 and I assume it's more or less the same change. I'm a software engineer so you can speak freely 🙂
Thanks for providing the instructions and the firmware update. Did anyone actually succeed in updating a JBL Bar 2.1 with this firmware? The lastest MCU version on the Bar 2.1 is MCU 48 and i'm affraid this one provided here will brick my Bar 2.1. From what i've heard from JBL they will not fix the 'muting issue' for the Bar 2.1 which is still present in MCU version 48.
I was sent firmware: MCU version 42.37 And yes it did correct the issue. It's a perfectly adequate sound bar for us now.
(not sure if it's a soundbar 2.1 though - no sub option as far as I can see)
Is this going to work for the JBL Bar 2.1?
I'm afraid to brick it... Currently, the latest available version from the official portal is 48 dated back Nov 2018.

I would't recommend installing the firmware from a JBL Studio on a JBL Bar 2.1. It has different functionality. Wouldn't be surprised if the Bar doesn't even accept the firmware from a Studio. The upgrade instructions for a JBL Bar for instance also includes this warning:
Important Note
This software is specially designed for use with JBL Bar 2.1 Soundbar. Use with any other
models or brands may cause damage to the product.
DO NOT USE THIS SOFTWARE WITH ANY OTHER PRODUCTS.
Currently I 'm in contact with JBL support to investigate this audio cut out problem on my Bar 2.1. If there's any progression or news I will share it here.
Many thanks, EZ2ACTux, for sharing the firmware update for the JBL Bar Studio and I managed to find a resolution of the issue only on this community.
I have just purchased the JBL Bar Studio here in Goa-India and will check if this model has the updated version which addresses this "auto muting" problem, which is being faced by many other owners of the JBL Bar Studio.
Would appreciate if you can let me know the following:
1. After updating the latest firmware on your JBL Bar Studio, have you faced any auto muting problems on your JBL Bar Studio?
2. Is the firmware update a worldwide applicable software upgrade to all JBL Bar Studio speakers, irrespective of where they are sold? I mean, would the firmware update applicable on your JBL Bar Studio speaker in the UK be the same firmware update on my firmware update on my JBL Bar Studio speaker here in India?
Since you are in contact with JBL, I would appreciate if you could kindly check with them.
Many thanks and regards.
Thanks, EZ2ACTux, it works!
I discovered muting issue while watching "Casino "Royale" with Daniel Craig: sound muted on some scenes eventually, especially on 36th minute of the movie, when Bond hit on brunette in red. Sound has muted between the phrases of the characters despite the chirping of the cicadas in background.
I downloaded firmware from you link and updated my JBL Bar Studio. Contrary to instructions bar didn't restarted for four hours, only led blinking slowed from one blink in a second to one blink in two seconds for four or five seconds after 15 minutes from update start. I waited four hours, took bar's power plug out of the electric socket, and after two minutes plug bar into electric socket again.
Luckily for me bar didn't turn into brick and turned on. Sound muting disappeared.
Old version of my firmware was 40.37, now I installed 42.37.
Thanks for firmware again.
Thanks so much for making the firmware available! It seems to have worked for me. But I'll repeat two caveats:
One: the instructions say to "press the power and volume-down buttons". I think you need to do this with the buttons on the top of the bar; at least, the buttons on the remote didn't work for me.
Two: the instructions say that the upgrade will take 14 minutes, and then the soundbar will reboot. For me, it didn't seem to finish: the purple LED just keeps flashing. I left it overnight, then lost patience and unplugged the power and plugged it in again. Seems to have worked, despite the dire warnings about not interrupting the upgrade.
Hi @EZ2ACTux ,
I tried to update the firmware but looks like my device is bricked. Only Orange light comes up for 2-3 secs when I power on and then nothing else. Any suggestions how I can unbrick ?
