I thought i couldn't turn the hub wifi off. Yes i find WiFi very confusing.

It's entirely up to you whether you turn the hub WiFi off or not. It just won't be part of the mesh if you leave it on, but it may suit you to have an extra source of WiFi where the hub is located.
