Re: Mitel Office IP Phone DHCP Discovery Issue

That is the connection you need to keep, as its going to be faster and more reliable.

You just need to try a different router.

The original one I mentioned should work, although the download speed would be restricted to 100Mbs or less.

There are faster ones, but if you are just trying to prove the fault, then its not worth spending too much money. Not sure whether it would be available locally. Possibly Currys Business, or Argos, you would have to look online.

Perhaps @licquorice  has another recommendation, as there are plenty to choose from.

I am not sure whether you have a static IP address with that connection, not that it matters much, it would probably be needed in the setup.

Re: Mitel Office IP Phone DHCP Discovery Issue

That’s brilliant thank you so much! Will get onto BT to cancel the really slow one as that order went through without me requesting it.

The fast router I need to keep doesn’t have a static IP address, will I need one for my IP phone to work? My IT department said I won’t need one as that’s only for business’. I’m not a business I was just told by BT I needed a business hub for my IP phone to work (which I don’t but never mind!)

there’s an option to get a LAN cable with the router on Amazon do I need that?

The fast router I should keep is called BT Halo for business - Ultrafast 2 Enhanced will that be an issue with the third party router I order?

Re: Mitel Office IP Phone DHCP Discovery Issue

I have no other suggestion for a router, however I'm not sure of the settings required for a business connection. I don't know if the connection is via PPPoE or DHCP and what the credentials are. I believe they are unique on business connections rather than generic as they are on residential connections.

I will reiterate that I believe the OP's IT department should be resolving this.

@meg_

As you now have a faster connection, maybe you could upload a pic of which device (on the wall) the faster connection is coming from?  And if possible the Router?

Your IP phone would not need a static public IP address to work. You should not need an extra LAN cable, as the one that already connects to your hub (red one) can be used, and that would connect to the WAN port of the TP Link router.

I assume you have a different login details for that fibre connection, as that would be the one you would need to use on the TP Link router.

The router should fetch the correct IP details from the network, so you could check if you get a connection with the computer first, then if that work, plug in the phone and keep your fingers crossed.

If you look at the software emulator for that router, you should be able to get an idea of what information is required.

@CJT80

This message comes up when I try to upload the photo 😞  Unsure how to make the file smaller?

Assuming you have a PC with Windows 10,  open up paint, open the picture in paint and crop it.

That should reduce the size of the picture.

You may also be able to reduce the size on the device you took the photo on if it's a smart phone

Re: Mitel Office IP Phone DHCP Discovery Issue

So when the router arrives, do I keep my fast router plugged in still how it is and connect the TP link router to it? If so how?

Or do I unplug the BT router I have and plug in the TP link router instead?
