My broadband speed has halfed

So i am on the fibre 2 package and a couple of days ago my speed dropped completely, usually i get around 33MBPS Download and 3MBPS Upload but i am now lucky is i get 1 up and 10 down. I'd done the obvious things, check cables, reset the hub and even used BT's own trouble shooter but according to that 12MBPS download is not an issue.  I have had faults with BT in the past but they were to do with my cabinet. the last one a non openreach engineer somehow connected my line to someone elses. I have taken a look on the forum about a fix for this new issue and i've noticed most people post stats from their hub manager and get a answer as to why the speed is dropped. sorry to be a pain but i'm going to do jus that. i did try calling BT but was on hold for a very long time. Information from my hub is below!!  Thank you in advance!!

Re: My broadband speed has halfed

Can you try quiet line test by dialling 17070 on landline using preferably a corded phone then select option 2. Should be silent

can you enter phone number and post results. Remember delete numbEr

Re: My broadband speed has halfed

A quick update, i just received a text from BT saying:

''Hi, BT here. We're sorry we didn't get to speak to you. Our helpdesks are very busy at the moment

We have tested your service and we can see there's a problem. The tests indicate that Openreach will be able to resolve this problem without visiting your property. You will not be charged.

Simply text back "FIX" to confirm you want to go ahead.
Thanks for your patience while we get this fixed.

Thank you for your help anyway!!!

Re: My broadband speed has halfed

Without checking for noise on your landline, there is nothing else you can do. A noisy landline is the cause of nearly all broadband issues, and cannot be detected by the normal BT line test.

The solution is to get hold of a cheap (less than £10) wired phone, and plug it into the phone socket to see if you get dial tone.

Then dial 17070 (free call)  and select option 2, quiet line test, and see if there is any noise on the line.

If you do not get dial tone, or there is noise on the line, then you need to report it as either no dial tone, or a noisy line. Do not mention the broadband problem, otherwise it will end up in the wrong fault queue, and take much longer to be fixed. There are plenty of people who can fix phone faults, but not as many broadband people.

Once the phone fault is fixed, then the broadband will get better.

Re: My broadband speed has halfed

It looks like its been detected.

You had a similar issue on this thread, but never marked it as resolved, or replied to it.

Its important that you do respond to posts, otherwise people may ignore you in future.
