Hello! Bit of a networking novice so I hope someone can help, after extensive googling has failed.
Ive had the netgear R7000 for around 2 years working on virgin fibre and for the last year working on my FTTP.
I’ve recently decided I want to use a VPN for all my home traffic and rather than use VPN apps everywhere I would “simply” install new firmware to my router and get the VPN up and running. Unfortunately I’m more so up and crawling.
I cannot for the life in me get the router to connect to the ONT (Huawei 1 port), it cannot establish a WAN ip.
Ive tried changing the IP of the router. And logging in using PPoE and it still fails to connect.
Is there something basic I’m missing?
Thanks
Alex
Have you re-entered the PPPoE username and password after upgrading the firmware?
bthomehub@btbroadband.com and BT
Hi, yes I tried that and I still get nothing. Am I right in thinking it would acquire a WAN IP if the username and login worked correctly?
Yes.
If it was working ok previously, it would seem to indicate you have borked the router with the upgrade.
The strange thing is the router never asked for login details with netgear genie software. I’m going to have to try power cycling everything and try again.
