Hi,
I have been put on Pay As You Go and as far as I'm concerned call charges are 20.9 pence per minute. My son made a 18 second call to his EE Mobile and that charge on the bill is 44p for the 18 second call. I contact the service desk but they failed to explained how a 20.9 per minute charge is billed as 44p. Does anyone on here has a valid explanation why the extra 23.1 p has been added per minute?
Thanks
Call charge rounding
Calls charged by duration only:
• Pay as you go, 500 minutes, 700 minutes and Unlimited minutes: The call charge (incl. VAT) is rounded up to the next whole penny to give the total call cost.
• Home Phone Saver Plan & all plans sold before 20th October 2019: The call charge plus the call set-up fee (excl. VAT) is rounded up to the next whole penny. We
add VAT (rounded up to the next whole penny) to give the total call cost
OK, so it seems if you're using PAYG there is also a charge of 23.1 pence to connect to EE.
Hi @Mush247,
Thank you for posting. When a chargeable call is made, there are the pence per minute rate along with the call set up fee.
The call setup fee is around 24.32p depending on the package.
You can find out more here - call rounding and set-up fees
Thanks,
Paddy
Hi Paddy,
Thanks for you reply.
So are you saying that all chargeable calls to landline or Mobile has a setup fee of around 24.32P?
Today I have spoken to 2 agents and none of them knew what the extra charge was all about, I got 2 difference answers and none made sense.
And maybe the document that list the charges per minute should say 20.9p per minute plus connection charges, that would stop the confusion.
Thanks

It does
Hi @Mush247,
Thank you for posting back. I'm sorry if you were given conflicting information when you called BT. The link @licquorice has posted is correct.
The call set-up charge is a one-off fee we charge once the call's connected and the pence per minute rate starts. If a call takes less than a minute, you'll pay the set-up fee plus 1 minute at the pence-per-minute rate.
Thanks,
Paddy
Hmm, having had a closer look, it would appear that set up fees are only applicable to the old call packages, page 21 of the tariff guide seems to indicate that no set up fee is applicable to the new plans except the Home Phone saver Plan.
Hi @licquorice,
Thank you for pointing that out. Going by what is shown in the tariff guide, it looks like I was wrong
