Scams

Today received a phone call from 01916719997 purporting to be from BT asking about my broadband and landline usage and offering to look at whether the right package. Then sent an email with  a 4 digit pin for verification so they could access a higher level of account information. The number on the email was 0800800150.

Have deleted the email as felt suspicious. Is this a scam or are the numbers bona fide?

Re: Scams

Hi @Dog3man,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for taking the time to post.

It sounds like in this case you have received a genuine call from BT. When we call a customer we are required to complete validation with the customer so that we can make sure the person we are speaking with is actually the account holder. To do this we will send a 4 digit pin code to the email address or mobile number we have on file. This code must be repeated back to the adviser within a few minutes to complete the validation.

When we make outbound calls these calls will not always show as coming from 0800 800 150.

Thanks

Matt
