Hi BT guys
Could I please request to deactivate open WIFI on my router please? The status is still on and still active even when I left BT over month ago. I am using this router with my new provider which is Plusnet and I would like to ask you to deactivate it remotely because I as a customer do not have a chance to do it in the settings and it is still active.
Second question is will my router still get firmware updates please? Because Plusnet is owned by BT anyway.
I can send you all data which you need in message or email if you leave me your details just please deactivate OPEN WIFI for me please.
Thank you.
Best Regards.
Juraj
As you are no longer a BT Retail customer I doubt BT can do anything. Did you opt out of BTWIFI before you left as it can take up to 28days to delete
Hi
Thank you for your reply no because I was not aware of that BT does something like that to be honest and I don't really like it that it was automatically setup as default ON. We should really have the option in router to be able to turn it off to be honest and not to ask for it.And also once I left it should go back to disabled as well technically I am not BT customer anymore and I have NO option to disable it or they should do it automatically. Someone could say but you use BT equipment yes and no it is my equipment which I bought from BT and I should be able to disable it and I did not give permission to BT to use my Wifi from another supplier for OPEN WIFI option. I do not want to change my router to Plusnet because plusnet router is **bleep**.
Well BT should be still able to do it remotely because Plusnet is owned by BT anyway.
Hopefully this will get sorted by BT it technicians.
Thank you.
BT RETAIL and Plusnet and different companies within the BT GROUP and cannot interact you you suggest. It is like going into Screwfix and demanding they help you with a B&Q problem because they are part of the same group
I can't actually see how BTwifi will still work if you are no longer connected to the BT BRAS, the network won't exist. Have you actually tried to connect to it?
No
You compared two different worlds. If you are talking about Screwfix and B&Q they are owned by Kingfisher but you definitely know that.
BT owns Plusnet again different scenario BT openreach owns the whole infrastructure in UK and they can remotely access them devices 100% even when you are on different network.
there is no such company as BT OPENREACH it is just Openreach now and they have no access to and hubs/routers If you have changed your username and password as now a Plusnet customer have you actually tried to connect to the internet using the BTWIFI network from your hub
Hmm, that's a bit concerning that when connected to the Plusnet network that BT functionality still works. I will flag this to the mods for clarification but it seems entirely wrong to me.
