Underground cable

Hi

i have recently purchased some land from the local council as it’s my intention to add a single storey extension to the side of my house. Planning permission etc has all been granted and my builders are due to start. I notice that there is underground cabling that is not deep but runs under my land belonging to BT/Openreach. I know where the cables go to and it may not encroach on to the part where my extension is to be built but it may be close to the new foundations. Am I within my rights to ask BT/ Openreach to move the cables as it is on my  land.

Thanks in advance for any assistance

Re: Underground cable

You can always ask however it is unlikely that the cables will be there illegally so it will depend on what's involved and who will pay to have cables moved.

Re: Underground cable

Bit of a tricky one that as the cable was originally on public land.

Re: Underground cable

Make sure that the builders are aware, because if they damage the cable, the costs to repair could run into tens of thousand pounds.
