Using an old BT Openreach modem with Playstation 5

Go to solution

Hi

I bought a btopenreach modem to try with my Ps5 as I’ve been having issues and want to simplify my network

the modem sets up, all lights turn on as they should, but when I try and connect my Ps5 via Lan 1, it won’t connect to the internet

I tried connecting via the Ps5 network settings in the same way I connect to my bt hub 2 but no joy

what am I doing wrong?

I have no idea if the PS5 supports PPPoE, but I very much suspect it doesn't. If it does, are you entering the correct login details of username bthomehub@btbroadband.com and password BT.

It doesn’t ask for them and there doesn’t seem to be any way to input them so I guess it’s not possible for them to connect

cheers

Might be worth asking on a PS5 forum if it supports PPPoE connections.

Then you need a router between the Openreach modem and PS5.Surprised you don't have a BT Hub with your service already.

Found this which suggests PS5 does support PPPoE.

Here are the steps to configure DNS Server for PS5:

  1. Go to the PS5’s home screen and click on Settings.
  2. Click on the Network option.
  3. Navigate to Setup Internet Connection.
  4. Pick Wi-Fi or LAN cable.
  5. Select Automatic, Manual, and PPPoE, and then click on the Automatic button to continue.
  6. Specify the DHCP hostname.
  7. Select Manual. You’ll be able to manually input the DNS.
  8. Enter the Primary DNS in the Primary DNS field.
