Wi-Fi HotSpot still on weeks after disabling it

Hi,

I've recently signed up for BT900 on 11th November, a few days after which I noticed and wanted the HOTSPOT off, as i have zero interest in sharing my 900Mbps connection with complete strangers, who could hack my hub, then my system(s) and drop a RAT (Remotely Accessed Trojan) or even worse... ransomware -the list is long, Malware, using stolen credit cards, child pornography, dark web drug/weapon purchases etc - even though I've been advised its separate from my connection, I'm not taking ANY chances, i don't pay £55 a month to share my G/bit internet with strangers for free when I will NOT be using theirs!!

When Im out and about I very rarely use my mobile, and when I do I have enough DATA to use and have other Wi-Fi at work (I use a VPN for that)

I disabled it and it said "it may take a few days for it to stop" - note: a few days - the same person also advised that it was up to 28 days....now if it was up to 28 days, why does it say a FEW DAYS? it wold surely have said "can take up to a month to turn off" (which I cant understand why, other than it financially benefits BT)

PLEASE, can somebody who works for BT please disable the Wi-Fi HotSpot.

thanks

Re: Wi-Fi HotSpot still on weeks after disabling it

As I replied on Kitz, if you depower your hub at night how do you expect BT to push the change to it?

Re: Wi-Fi HotSpot still on weeks after disabling it

read yer reply -sigh!

as i said, i left it on for a few days, also its on all day and night, its at their end and the "push" should/could be at anytime - why should i leave my router on for a MONTH to disable one simple option

i think its time for the new router!

Re: HOTSPOT issue - staff replies only please!

It is not relevant to this board and posting the same thing on multiple boards is not appreciated as it causes confusion with replies. The only BT staff are the mods and they only get involved when the community are unable to help.

Re: HOTSPOT issue - staff replies only please!

Liqourice - i respect you, but you are NOT staff - as for MODS they are just "helpers" that move posts around with a given level of "privs" - i know, I've ran my own forums many years before! and this is an issue you can not sort out! so STAFF should be involved hence my title!

- I'd like staff help,  not you telling me it's 28 days i have to leave my router on, it said a few days, not 28 days!

BT are extremely poor if the only time they can turn off this HOTSPOT **bleep** is after 28 days, and they are lying to the customer when they said a few days = few = 2/3 days?  and I left it on 3 nights in a row for that! and firmware updates! - that should be enough, because as soon as a ruoter goes online with an out of date FW it is instantly updated either there n then, or at 4am - only FIRMWARE updates are pushed when people sleep, this ain't a FIRMWARE UPDATE, it's just a silly Wi-Fi option they just need to tell my router to "turn it off"

and also, a LOT of people turn off ALL plugs at night, so for them to expect people to leave it on for 28 days to disable a simple wireless option is silly.

its funny how BT let you do an AWS test at any time, but they cant PUSH a bit of code that says "turn off hotspot" ...........unless its 4am!!

tell u what LQ -  ill call and talk to staff.

Re: HOTSPOT issue - staff replies only please!

This forum is a customer to customer self help forum, not a short cut to BT staff.

The only BT staff monitoring the forum are the mods.

Re: HOTSPOT issue - staff replies only please!

I have moved you onto the correct relevant board for your problem. If you had bothered to check the correct board you would see that is where all BTWifi problems are posted.  All the boards are monitored and has already been pointed out posting across boards is pointless.

If you want staff help you'll have to call BT, the mods here are only really to help out when other avenues fail
