Hi My mum has been with Post Office phone and internet a few years, when my dad died she cancelled the account but being confused didn't arrange any other internet and phone. when i phoned post office back to try and get her reconnected they said they weren't taking on any more customers. Their customer service was terrible, when i asked if she could get the phone number back she had for over 40 years they said, if we got another supplier quick. I got her signed back up with BT who were the originator of her phone number with a new internet and phone package and they would request the number. After the BT order was getting cancelled we find out Post office is not releasing the number, and i believe BT have been trying to get it.
Surely this was a BT number origionally and do they have a right to do this and is there anything we can do or can BT assist with this. We have taken the BT package and it is due to be live on 11th DEC. Is there anyway we can get this number with the help of BT or can someone suggest how i can get Post office to release the number.
any advice would be appreciated and any assistance grateful.
Chris
If the number belongs to BT Retail, and she is living at the same address, then there should be no problem getting the number back, as once the Post Office cancel the service, the number will be returned to the number range holder, they cannot hold on to it as they do not own the number.
Are you sure that both the Internet and phone line have been fully cancelled by the Post Office, as until that happens, the number will not be released?
Hi Thanks for answering
yes its a BT number and she still stays at address, when we try to choose the number it is saying unavailable. We have taken the BT package and a number but would want to try change this once we get active. Whats the process then once we get the BT line back in Keith?
Chris
Once the BT service is active and working with a new number, then she can contact BT, and ask for a renumber back to her original number, there is normally a small charge for this.
If BT are unable to do this via a normal renumber order, then a forum moderator can be asked to help.
Hi Keith, yes they cancelled the service my mum has had no phone or internet for 3 weeks now cause of us tryin to get this number. there was an outstanding bill that had to be paid £20. this was paid to post office and when we again tried to get the package from BT and include the number it said unavailable.???
We have taken a BT package and hopefully a temp number until or if i can resolve the old number problem.
Hi Keith, you gave me some advice regarding my mum getting her origional BT number back, we are now active with BT again i am wanting contact someone regarding the renumber back to the old, who is the best contact to start with, is it customer services. Any info is appreciated.
