"Not for Cp Use" address

I'm looking for new broadband as my Virgin Media contract is coming to an end, but when checking whether I can get fibre broadband on the BT website (and on openreach) all the flats in my building, as well as the equivalent neighbouring flats, are shown except mine.

There is a mysterious "Not for Cp Use [street address]" flat that can get a fibre connection, so I'm wondering if this is us? I don't want to take a risk of swapping to a new contract only to find that my internet speeds tank but I really don't want to stick with Virgin if I can help it!

Is there any way to tell if I'm able to get fibre with anyone except Virgin (I think they have their own network)? Given covid I would prefer not to have to sit in a call queue for ages either.

Thanks!

@FergusMooney

Welcome to this user forum.

Use this website https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

Select the address checker option and post the results here, but edit out your address first, but leave the exchange and cabinet number showing.

You would have to get a BT Retail phone line installed first, as that will update the Openreach database. If the other flats can get BT Broadband, then there should not normally be a problem, unless the cabinet is full.

Re: "Not for Cp Use" address

The other option is to go through the process of placing an order with BT, and that will tell you what is available. You do not have to actually place the order, unless you wish to.

Then try to place an order on the website to see what it says. Is there an Openreach or BT labelled phone socket in the flat? A phone line may need to be installed first, which is why you cannot see what is available. Your flat may be showing as "bronze" on the Openreach routing database.

If that is the case.

You would need to follow the process for ordering a new phone line first. Once that has been provided, then the Openreach database will be updated and you will be able to see what broadband options are available to you.

Place an order for a line only using this link - https://www.bt.com/landline/deals

If the address doesn't appear properly when you enter the postcode, there is a section underneath where you can manually enter the address.  This will raise the order with the address showing as bronze and it will prompt Openreach to carry out a survey to confirm the routing.   Once the routing is updated the order will then progress as normal.  You can then add broadband once you have the line up and running.
