I noticed the same thing.

But I did receive this email:

Re: BT Smart Controls service is changing

For me, my BT Smart Home Cams are just junk now.
I noticed they'd started to blink a red light, so assumed BT had indeed pulled the plug on the service.
If I click on the BT Smart Controls app. I get the following message:

Error
Communication with the server may have been interrupted,
hence the app can't connect to the server

So that's another set of BT cameras that can no longer be used, and will add to the growing issue of electronic waste
Pulling support, offering no redress to the customers who invested hard earned cash in their products & then suggesting we pay to ship the cameras back to BT for disposal.

BT, I am a bit more than "disappointed" by your lack of commitment to, and support shown your customers.
And beyond that, the lack of responsibility and consideration being shown to the environment

"The problem of e-waste is escalating, with global generation projected to reach 82 million tonnes by 2030, up from 62 million tonnes in 2022, primarily driven by increased consumption and shorter product lifespans. This growth outpaces recycling efforts, leading to widespread disposal of hazardous materials that contaminate soil, water, and air, causing severe environmental damage and health risks to exposed populations. Key challenges include complex e-waste composition, lack of public awareness and recycling infrastructure, weak regulations, and the prevalence of unsafe informal recycling practices."

BT happy to wash their hands of the issue at every level.

Re: BT Smart Controls service is changing

Spot on.
Yes, my now useless cameras show the Red Light of Death.
That’s the 2nd time BT have pulled the plug on their camera systems.
A useful product instantly made redundant.

Re: BT Smart Controls service is changing

Updated 19sep: Our cams stopped working on 17sep showing the message "Communication with server may have been interrupted, hence the app can't connect to the server" and the cameras' lights flashing red.
Such a waste of resources and shocking this is created by one of biggest brands in the UK. BT of all companies ruining the environment.  Think twice before buying BT products.

Re: BT Smart Controls service is changing

And just to rub salt into the wound, the message in the app reads 'Something went wrong on our end. We are working diligently to fix this so please try again in a few minutes'

Yep, something has gone wrong at your end BT!

Re: BT Smart Controls service is changing

Complaint:
You have terminated the above with no sensible explanation apart from the fact that you will save money. This is very disappointing. I cannot even view the camera directly (ie not via your server). I have been a BT Broadband customer for over 30 years! I do not expect to be treated like this. I expect you to replace the camera with something similar at no cost or refund the cost of the camera as it appears there is no way to access. I wasn’t aware it needed your server for it to work. You offer a recycling option but what will happen to the to it apart from land fill?

Perhaps you could update the app so I can access the camera directly without the need for your server.

Very disappointed customer

I guess you haven't realised this is a customer to customer self help forum.

Please delete your account number, not a good idea to post personal information on a forum viewable worldwide.

Edit: too late, just seen your time of posting.

@vintagewireless  As advised, you really should delete your account number off your previous post. If you  don’t, hopefully a Moderator will step in and do it for you.
