I would if I could but no edit option now. Maybe a mod would do it for me. Sorry about breaking the rules, wasn't intentional,
OK, found the adapter but it hasn't changed anything
You already have a HDD working right with it, in which case I just think there is a compatibility issue between the new drive you have and the SH2.
Certainly a strange one. Probably no consolation but I have a 2Gb Toshiba drive that works just fine powered by the hub usb port.
Does that have a native USB-C interface?
Yes, it does.
Im out of ideas really other than this particular drive is problematic.
Just a thought.
I have seen this before with cheap asian cables. I take it the end plugged into the SH2 is USB 3? While USB 3 is supposed to be backward compatible with a USB 2 socket, the cheap cables are not built quite precisely enough. I had such a cable once where I had to ease it very slightly out of the socket to establish an connection between the USB 3 cable and the USB 2 socket.
Yeah it will be because its a USB-C to USB-A cable which he got separately, at least it looks that way, it would be USB 3 at the A end.
The external SSD comes with its own USB-C to USB-C cable but also an adapter to covert one end to USB-A.
Even so I've found the idea of backwards compatibility with these cables to be a bit hit & miss.
