Re: BT Smart Hub2 WiFi broadcasting without an SSID despite being turned off

Go to solution

Hi, just quick update,...as now working. AP router reboots per major change, so took a little while. Anyway AP hooked into WAN port & all good. Now I've just to set AP with our SSID & drop SH2 WiFi.  Thanks for the guidance.

BTW I've submitted feedback asking for BT community forum be replicated across EE forum. A common repository would be beneficial.

Just out of interest, is that the WAN port on the SH2?  If it is, is it set as a WAN port on the SH2 or is set with FTTP mode turned off, (in which case it behaves as LAN port 4)?  I only ask because I am surprised that works.

I'd imagine must be set as a LAN port, I seem to recall you were expected (or rather the installation person was) to switch it from the defaut LAN setting if moving to FTTP. Certainly that was the case when I moved to FTTP.

Sorry, should have clarified. It's the WAN port on Netgear. FYI a little more config to do e.g. disable DSL.

Interesting.  I would not expect that to work unless the port is dual purpose.  Thanks for the update.  Something I'll look into when I have time.

@google1901   Ah, it was you talking about using it as an AP that threw me.  I assumed you were just trying to set it up as a wireless access point.

Reading the posts again, you’re actually using the D6400 as the router to a separate network, albeit a wireless network, in which case that configuration should work.

I'm glad you got sorted, but it would have been good to raise this on a seperate thread and keep the original thread clean, as your secondary issue was really was nothing to do with the original topic

All these EE routers are still broadcasting unwanted hidden ssid's without the option to disable them. Really would like to be able to switch these off.

EE smart hub 2 route WiFi 5 router

EE smart hub plus WiFi 6 router

EE smart hub pro WiFi 7 router

Ive heard the same but don't have an EE Hub

Would be great if EE can also resolve the issue.

Anyone with an EE Hub, report this on the EE community forum.

I have reported it over the years to EE technical support and the executive department. Neither of which really understand what the issue is, even though it was clearly spelt out to them.

I believe that EE have the coding of their newer generation hubs in house, so crossing fingers is probably the best that can be done!
