Cr@ppy Smart Hub 2

Anyone else having problems with the smart hub 2 since the last firmware update?  Never had any problems with it before, but since the HTTPS update I can't allocate change the ip addressees of any of my devices.  If i set always use this IP address to YES, then click save, exit the page and re open the page, its change back to NO.  If I click change ip address, enter an ip address that isn't being used and save, exit the page, revisit the page, the ip address is back to the one that it was before i tried changing it.  If i add port forwarding to and click save the set port forward i am adding just vanishes, never to be seen again.
I did a factory reset, that made no difference.  and now i cant get some devices back on their correct ip addresses.
BT wont upgrade me to EE without locking in a new contract at £16/month more than a new customer starting at something like £48/month and going up to £53 in 2027 and £56 in 2028.  Extortionate pricing when compared to other providers!
Still have 12 months on the current contract, then its bye bye BT!
Loathed to spend £200-£300 on a Netgear or whatever, just because BT screwed up the firmware, to keep my network up and running for 12 months, but im running out of ideas!
Any suggestions.

Re: Cr@ppy Smart Hub 2

Set static IP addresses on the devices themselves if you want particular IP addresses.

Yes, I agree, but not always possible on IOT

Re: Cr@ppy Smart Hub 2

As far as I know, the EE routers are compatible.

Just by coincidence, I was just looking at EE routers on Amazon.   EE Smart Hub Plus (Wi-Fi 6)  £25.

Or just use a raspberry pi and pi-hole for DHCP and DNS as well.

Re: Cr@ppy Smart Hub 2

I've had a SH2 for years..it's now sitting in a cupboard awaiting return if ever they request it back

When I ordered BT 500mbps I thought it best get a wifi 6 router to take full advantage.

Looked on ebay and there was literally dozens of EE smart hubs

Think I paid around £20

It was literally plug and play..working seamlessly with BT broadband

Point being you don't have to re contract or splash out on a third party router that  resembles a upturned spider.

PS..grass isn't always greener

Thanks
I've ordered an EE router.
Just slightly annoyed at having to spend money to get beck to where I was before BT broke the router functionallity when they did the HTTPS firmware.

@Nigel8283  Arguably, despite you buying the EE router (you didn’t say how much 😏) you’ll undoubtedly end up with better kit. You’ll have WiFi 6 and the availability of a more robust security protocol. Post back and let us know how you get on with it.

Re: Cr@ppy Smart Hub 2

The only downside of the EE router is it's pretty ugly to look at, and is also quite a bit larger than the BT SH2 and - presumably - the new SH3.

Re: Cr@ppy Smart Hub 2

@chrisjp  It’s a good job you’ve not clapped eyes on my router then! 😂

@Kodikid would literally go into meltdown, it’s enormous, like a weird sci-fi spider on its back.

But it does everything I need it to do and even though it’s in the lounge, it’s completely hidden by the 55 inch flat screen. And before anyone comes out with any guff stating that’s the worst place to position a router, well it’s been there for 4 years and WiFi has never been affected anywhere in the house or garden for that matter.
