Freestyle 650 answerphone memory cahe

Go to solution

My answerphone base has a flashing red light at the bottom middle which I understand may mean the memory cache is full and needs emptying. Can anyone advise on this or how to empty it.

Many thanks

Morning @theballen

Thanks for posting on the community.

Have you tried turning the answerphone off and then back on again to see if the light still flashes? If so and no change, could you leave a new message and then listen and delete the message, does the light still flash?

Thanks Leanne

Neither of these makes any difference.

I had this problem some years ago and a Bt helpline assisted me in emptying a cache, not deleting the messages after they are read which I always do. The Bt helpline for the Freestyle 650 is no longer covering this model.

So it seems that this cache ( 50 messages I believe) is full again. I never understood this cache which apparently still stores the message count even when they are deleted!

I believe the above was as I understood back before, but could be incorrect.

It sounds like it doesn't defragment its (limited) storage. If this were anything other than a BT product, I'd say that was silly—until I remembered that the SH2 doesn't free up unused DHCP allocations—unlike every other router produced in the last 15 years!

Interesting - so how would you deal with that?

Hi there @theballen

Thanks for coming back to me.

If you get in touch with our technical support guides they will get the answerphone looked into for you.

Ways to get in touch can be found on the Contact BT page.

Leanne.

Thanks Leanne
Been in touch with the support guides who just put me onto a BT Product Helpline, but they could not help with this analogue model. Nobody seems to have any idea about the memory cache, just said unplug and re-plug after 5 mins.
I do not see that I am getting anywhere with this after numerous helpline calls.

To be honest this phone/answerphone is now nearly 20 years old so I'm not really surprised by the lack of support for it now from BT or its Guides, some of whom may be younger than the equipment!  Have you tried to unplug the base, leaving it for about half an hour to clear the settings and then re-register the base by going into the menu settings?  Other than that I can't currently think of another possible solution to this - sorry.
