Hybrid connect 4G network problem

Go to solution

Don’t know where else to turn, so thought I’d try the most helpful forum on the internet.

Over the last 2 or 3 weeks the 4G signal has dropped out for long periods multiple times every day. Fortunately it’s not been needed, but this obviously has major implications for the Hybrid connect and my Halo 3+ subscription.

I know they are aware because I’m getting the same emails daily from EE saying they have a problem in my area and then that it has been fixed, only for the cycle to begin again. It’s happened 5 times today alone.

I have no details about the issue. I don’t know whether it’s an EE problem or an issue with the infrastructure for all carriers and I haven’t been able to find any contact route within EE that doesn’t result in the stock “please restart your device” response.

It’s becoming a real issue as it renders the excellent idea of the Hybrid connect utterly useless.

Does anyone have an idea on how to find some useful information please?

A quick update.
I got a different email from EE today saying that the problem is taking longer to fix than expected, so I guess someone, somewhere has decided enough is enough.
As usual 4G has started dropping out again (flashing red signal bars on the hybrid connect).
3G has been rock solid through all of this by the way, so phone usage hasn’t been too badly affected thankfully.

Have you tried your location in the EE service checker to see if that sheds any light?

Re: Hybrid connect 4G network problem

Yes, I have.
It has the same information, or lack of, that EE email me with. It’s the same source so no surprise there.

It’s also hopelessly out of date. For example, several times I have received an email telling me the problem is fixed when I can see the signal lights on the hybrid connect have started flashing as a result of the next 4G drop out. The new we have a problem email will then arrive in 30 to 45 minutes or so.

I’m hoping that the issue might have been escalated finally, because as it stands the Hybrid connect is not fit for purpose. It doesn’t bode well for the 3G switch off either.

I just want a little more detail and a timescale tbh, but can’t find a way through the EE labyrinth.

I’ve just heard from EE again who say “The problem near xxxxxxx has now been fixed, we recommend you restart your device.”
I’ll see what happens over the next 24 hours.🤞🤞🤞

That didn’t last long. 4G has dropped out again, confirmed by my phone only getting 3G signal.

I’m at the point of giving up on the Hybrid Connect. I have no complaints about the device itself, it’s been rock solid, never loses its link to the SH2, but sadly, without a robust 4G service it’s useless.

Fortunately I got a very good deal for Halo3+, but unless things improve dramatically, I’ll be getting rid of it come contract end.

I just tried to contact EE again. Having scrupulously typed details of the issue into their “report a problem” facility it informed me it couldn’t submit the form and please start again later!!!

No EE, I refuse to start again! You keep emailing me every time 4G drops out, so you already know. Just fix it!
Today is also looking like one of the worst since this saga started.

4G dropped at 11.58, was fixed at 12.19

Dropped at 16.54, fixed at 17.16

Dropped at 17.25, and is still down at 18.07

Re: Hybrid connect 4G network problem

It has finally been fixed I think. 4G has been up for over 48 hours, first time that’s happened for weeks.

Trying to look on the bright side, it has been useful in one respect.
It’s prompted me to keep a close eye on 4G performance for the 6 months I have left in contract. Any more 4G failures, or 4G download speeds that would not allow me to stream Netflix, and the Hybrid Connect can definitely go.
Cost at the end of contract will obviously be the other factor.
