Re: Meet our next generation Smart Hub 3

I think you'll all find that the reality is simpler than that.

It takes a while to ramp up production and build up stock reserves.  Supply of the SH3 is probably quite limited at present , plus BT will still have significant stocks of SH2s that they want to get rid of.  Result, continue giving SH2s to existing customers.  Offer the "new" SH3 to new customers as an attractant.  Simple business logic.

Re: Meet our next generation Smart Hub 3

I was switched to EE . Complete disaster.  Mainly lost landline but lots of other problems too Returned to BT as smooth as silk thanks to some excellent mods and skilled senior techs who were dedicated to the task. Wrote to Ms Kirby to praise by name. No acknowledgement or thanks to these guys who worked tirelessly to sort out the issue. In fact the mods got their role diminished.

@ wsh  Or lose existing customers who get tired of waiting. Watch the stats and the share price

Re: Meet our next generation Smart Hub 3

@dephead2004  I doubt BT would care much about what a few customers moaning on a forum think. They have been operating for decades, customers moaning about what router they are or are not using is probably way down their list of priorities.

Easy thing for customers who don’t have or want a landline, and seemingly most don’t bother with a landline these days, is to buy your own arguably more superior router. That is of course if you don’t mind spending your money.

Re: Meet our next generation Smart Hub 3

Just thought I would add my 2p here.  When I saw the title, I thought, Oh,no, they're going to foist yet another new hub on me, as they did a few years ago.  We had to return the old hub, plus two disks that had been sitting in the cupboard for years - I didn't even know what they were for.  Seemed like an awful waste.  We're very light users here: just landline and broadband.

So I'm much relieved after reading through the comments!

Re: Meet our next generation Smart Hub 3

I was offered a great deal to recontract from 500GB/s to 900 GB/s for £3 extra. Small print? Smart hub 2. And for me I need the new complete wifi discs to go with SH3. So recontract is a no go and purchase on fleabay is a no go (too expensive for disc plus hub £100 for both).

The issue is that we are stuck on wifi 5 for far too long. EE is on WiFi 7 and now BT is on WiFi6 but unavailable

Same here - just did a check on the PC, mobile & tablet devices in our house. They are all WiFi 6 or 6e, and at our next update for each they will be WiFi 7.

I have concluded that I have to switch - probably to Plusnet - because with BT I am effectively locked into out of date WiFi 5 WiFi mesh equipment with Halo 3 with no possible equipment upgrade, or way to get out of Halo 3, and there is no way I am going another 2 years paying for out of date kit.

With the saving from going to Plusnet I can afford to get my own WiFi 6e or 7 mesh system.

Re: Meet our next generation Smart Hub 3

As you say with the tech changing so fast it’s not unreasonable to be at least offered access to best equipment available to make best use of it and unfortunately looks like changing provider may be an only option, things may change but not for awhile

Re: Meet our next generation Smart Hub 3

If you use a commercially available mesh WiFi system, that can be WiFi 6 or 7 depending on how much you want to spend. This is entirely independent of WiFi from the SH2, which can (and should) be turned off. Only BT's "complete WiFi" black mesh discs lock you into WiFi 5.
