Hi All,
I bought a new BT hub 2 on ebay as mine has been having problems intermittently for ages. Anyway, it's the same as the old one but when I go to turn on the fibre option it's not there.
Advanced, broadband etc no but option to turn it on.
Would love some feedback
Thanks
Its only needed if you have a full fibre connection, where the home hub is connected to the Openreach ONT.
If that is the case, then you are out of luck, as it probably needs a firmware update which would need an Internet connection.
I assume its the BT Smart Hub 2 you have, the one with a green phone socket on the back?
No, you would need one with a BT VDSL connection. (copper).
There is no guarantee it would get a software update, as it would be a device with a serial number unknown to BTs Network Management system.
If it did, it could take many weeks.

That's what I meant, I'm hoping my neighbour will do this for me. It's a brand new router, still in plastic , shame about the firmware.
Thanks again Keith
On a side note.
If BT hadn't kept telling me to reset my router so many times I probably wouldn't be asking this question .
Never mind 🙂
I do use two SH2's, one I bought. Both update without any issues regarding the serial numbers etc.
Nice to know , thank you.
Having said that, one interesting observation: The bought one was in use recently and did seem reluctant to get the latest update to v0.44. It was a month after I first saw the update reported here and only appeared after I put the BT issued one back on. I put the bought one on to update next day and it did so immediately. Not seen that behaviour before in half a dozen updates but it might be linked to what Keith said.
Thanks again, I'll try to persuade my neighbour to plug the new one in over night, see if it updates.
Thanks
