Returning my digital home phone, but I'd prefer to keep it

Go to solution

I've just left BT Broadband for another, cheaper, supplier. BT will shortly send me a returns bag for the router but not, according to the email, for the wireless HD Voice phone they gave me. It does appear that this phone will not register with any router except that of BT. If I send it back to BT, I expect it will just be junked. Possibly the battery will be extracted and recycled and the rest sent to landfill. Isn't that a shame? I'd prefer to use it with my new router, but as the phone has no means to enter a password for a router, that doesn't seem possible. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will advise me...

I'd remove the batteries, possibly for use in something else & put it in a draw in case BT change their mind & want to charge you for not returning it. Also you may at some point return to BT where you can use it again.

But you're right in that it is bespoke to the BT service. But as they are DECT it may be possible to pair it to another manufacturers base station. It would only act as a basic handset with no access to contacts but might do a turn somewhere.

Hi @Rebeccat2850,

Thanks for taking the time to reach out.

Check out "return and recycle our equipment for free" if you do decide to return it.

Thanks
