Re: 'Smart Hub 3 is coming soon'

Well looked literally everywhere and not one single mention anywhere of BT changing it's smart hub 2 router.

Surely if a new router was on the horizon someone somewhere would have picked up on it.

Re: 'Smart Hub 3 is coming soon'

It isn’t inconceivable that a replacement isn’t on the horizon, after all, the dear old SH2 can’t go on forever, or can it?

Then there’s the possible perceived problem of a two tier level of service between the BT and EE brands. They are after all, the same company operating for whatever reason known only unto them, under two separate names but are essentially from a domestic perspective, the same. So EE customers get newer undoubtedly better tech, whilst those utterly loyal to the BT brand, stay stuck. But, as has been said already, there’s probably a hard core demographic absolutely wedded to the BT brand who will never swap to any other ISP, so they won’t care anyway.

It's funny poor old plusnet never gets mentioned

It's probably got a customer base equivalent to BT'S

Re: 'Smart Hub 3 is coming soon'

To be fair, Plusnet being the budget arm of the BT Group, are still using the SH2 albeit in their own branding. Whether they’ll pull themselves out of using it, remains to be seen, but with the advancements in WiFi tech, they will probably have to.

There’s clearly some affection for the SH2, quite why, is another question. I certainly would never go back to using a WiFi 5 only capable router nor a dual band router either. But some folks are happy the way things are and that’s their prerogative.

Re: 'Smart Hub 3 is coming soon'

Since the first BT Homehub through all five versions and the Smarthub to the Smarthub2,  BT never routinely replaced ALL the older hubs that customers were using to the newer hub when it was introduced.

They were replaced when there was a fault or when the customer was renewing their Fixed Term Contract particularly if  there was a requirement to change the hub because of changing their type of broadband and the older version would not work ie ADSL to VDSL or the customer asked for one as a condition of renewing their contract.

The new hubs were issued to all new customers.
