Splitting 2.4 & 5 Ghz access

I have a BT Smart Hub

I cannot connect to SMART devices, been told to separate out 2.4 and 5GHz

According to this set of instructions... its easy

https://www.bt.com/help/broadband/fix-a-problem/broadband-and-wi-fi/i-can-t-connect/i-can-t-connect-...

Howver when I get to advanced config screen I do not get the button to:

Change 'Sync with 2.4 Ghz' to No

Here is a screenshot of what I get ... how do I split off 2.4 and 5 GHzScreenshot 2022-10-10 135616.jpg

From the SSID I'm guessing you have the Smart Hub 2, in which case the bands cannot be split.

Re: Splitting 2.4 & 5 Ghz access

How do I get around this ... SMART Life devices require 2.4GHz only not 2.4/5GHz

Re: Splitting 2.4 & 5 Ghz access

then turn off 5ghz network, connect your 2.4ghz devices and once they are connected and stable re-enable 5ghz

Re: Splitting 2.4 & 5 Ghz access

I've been trying to work out why some single band devices that can't even 'see' 5Ghz signals don't seem to like both bands having the same SSID but most are happy.

This quote seems to explain the reason quite well

It's the device you're using for setup that needs to be 2.4Ghz - the coexisting 5Ghz network doesn't actually matter. The crappy device is listening for packets broadcast on the physical layer to tell it the SSID and password, so the phone has to be on that band to send them. Which is a problem for iPhones that don't let you specify the band, so the fix is to turn off 5Ghz, not because the device cares, but to force the phone to use 2.4.

I.e, the devices are connecting in ad-hoc mode rather than via the router.

A single SSID is required for true band steering of dual band devices.
