Unable to attach photo's to an email

Go to solution

I've used the BT Mail app  for many years, but I require help with a problem I have in attaching photographs to an email. Each time I get "Storage Perissions must be granted before files can be attached from d....", and the message ends there. I've gone through the app setup and given full permission to everything, but still it gives the same message. Any help in sorting this problem would be very much appreciated.

Hi @Mozzer60

Welcome to the Community.

While it may seem a simple step, have you tried deleting and reinstalling the app to see if this does the trick?
Do you face the same issues if you use the web browser version?

What device are you currently using?

Speak soon,
Linzi

Hi Linzi,

Thank you for your help. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it, but still the same message appears when trying to attach photo’s. I own a Samsung S25 Ultra, although I had the same problem with my S24 Ultra. I’ve not tried the web browser version, but I’ll give it a go.

Regards,

Phil.

How large are the photos. If I remember correctly attachments per email are limited to 25MB in total however, you may find it hard to send attachments that are bigger than 20MB because they'll need to be encrypted..

Hi,

The largest is 4M, but it never gets to the point. As I click the paper clip the message appears immediately without knowing what the file size is.

Thanks for confirming that for us, @Mozzer60.

Have you changed your BT package / account at all recently?

Also did you get a chance to try the Webmail app to see if it gives the same error?

Peter

Hi, No I've not done anything different. I'm currently with Plusnet, but when BT full fibre becomes available I'll be swapping back.

If you are no longer a BT Broadband customer, unless you are paying for a BT Premium email account, your BTMail account will have been downgraded to a BTMail Basic account which can not be used with an email app.

It can only be used using a web browser (webmail).

Hi @Mozzer60

Instead of attaching the photo you can copy it into the body of an email.
I have found this info on how to do this...

To insert a photo into the body of an email on a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, you can either copy and paste it or use the "Insert photo" feature within the email app. To copy and paste, select the photo in the gallery, tap "Copy," then navigate to your email, tap and hold in the body, and select "Paste". Alternatively, open the email, tap the "Insert photo" or similar icon, and select the photo from your gallery.

Detailed Steps:
1. Copy and Paste:
  • Open Gallery: Locate and open the Gallery app on your phone.

  • Select Photo: Find and tap on the photo you want to insert.

  • Copy: Tap the "Copy" icon (usually a clipboard) in the gallery.

  • Compose Email: Open your email app and start composing a new email.

  • Paste: In the email body, tap and hold the desired location, then tap "Paste".

2. Using "Insert Photo":
  • Compose Email: Open your email app and start composing a new email.

  • Insert Photo: Look for an "Insert photo" or similar icon (often an image icon) in the toolbar, usually at the bottom of the screen.

  • Select Photo: Tap the icon, then select the photo from your gallery or other storage options.

Additional Tips:
  • Resizing:
Some email apps allow you to resize inserted images by tapping and dragging the handles on the image.

  • Alternative Sharing:
You can also share the photo directly from the Gallery app to your email by tapping the Share icon and selecting the email app.

Attachments:
  • While inserting an image directly into the body is convenient, you can also attach the photo as a file, which is useful for larger files or if you need to send it to a recipient who may not be able to view inline images.

    I hope this helps x
