BT Broadband speeds reducing over time

In Dec 2018, we switched to BT FTTC Superfast Fibre we were told to expect the following speeds:

    ... estimate your download speed will be between 47Mbps and 55Mbps,
    and your upload speed will be between 9.8Mbps and 10Mbps.

    The minimum guaranteed speed you can expect from your broadband will be 42Mbps.
   

In Jun 2020, we renewed with BT, now called Fibre 1 and our new speeds were:

    ... estimate your download speed will be between 36Mbps and 50Mbps,
    and your upload speed will be between 7Mbps and 9Mbps.

    The minimum guaranteed speed you can expect from your broadband will be 30Mbps.
    
In Jun 2022, if we renew again, still with Fibre 1, our speeds will be:

    ... estimated download speed will be between 25Mbps and 27Mbps,
    and your upload speed will be between 8Mbps and 9Mbps.

    The minimum guaranteed speed you can expect from your broadband will be 22Mbps.
    
I could upgrade to Fibre 2 and get exactly the same estimated speeds as Fibre 1!

Is it just us or are BT's broadband download speeds falling everywhere?
(and how long will it be before I need to get the old 9.6K modem out of the loft)?

PS. Our current measured download speed is 27Mbps. ☹️

That is to be expected. One major disadvantage of FTTC, is that as more people get connected to the cabinet, the amount of crosstalk between adjacent cable pairs increases, which results in a decrease of connection speed due to the reduction of available bandwidth.

what connection speeds do you currently get as BT figures are just estimates

if you cannot get fibre 1 max speeds then moving to fibre 2 will not help get faster speeds.  you are obvioysly getting as fast as your line can handle

For the last two months we have had a downstream sync speed high of nearly of about 40mbs for a couple of days, a low of about 17mbps for about two weeks and some where between those two speeds for the rest of the time.

I guess the download speeds are a little less than the sync speeds.

Currently the sync speed is 29.999mbps, below our minimum stay fast guarantee of 30mbps.

According to the BT Broadband Checker we should be getting around 40mbps.

 please can you post the stats from your router (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser) and if  HH5 then go to troubleshooting then helpdesk and if HH6/SH2 then advanced settings then technical log information . 

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

are you having problems with your connection dropping - lights on hub changing colour?  are you doing manual resets to try and improve your speed

No noise on the quiet line test.

We do get a lot of re-connects, more than 70 from the 16 Feb to now.

Used to do the odd reset but mostly leave it alone.

sorry that is hub status  you need to go to hub manager then advanced settings then technical log information.  should see your connection information - not the logs
