Re: BT offer to increase speeds

FWIW , currently the price for both 150Mb and 500Mb for new customers is £30.99 , based on a 24 month term with the March 2027 and March 2028 increases being identical , so it really would be bonkers to take the 150Mb deal as a new customer , personally I don’t see the comparison with Halo , it being genuinely being difficult to remove , I’ve never seen any complaints about changing speed profiles when negotiating a renewal , so the argument is that at the end of the deal downgrading to 150Mb may be difficult to accomplish, is speculative at best , and much like Halo the ultimate sanction is you can always leave if what you want isn’t offered , in the meantime 3x the speed for the same price seems like a good deal .

Re: BT offer to increase speeds

@iniltous exactly, the special invite to upgrade I was offered was a no brainer. Always can go back to 150mbs in case there is a catch but I think it was a genuine offer.
Regarding Halo, I managed to get it removed off my package of 900mbs few years ago and didn’t have any problems also down graded to 150mbs at the same time.

Re: BT offer to increase speeds

On the other hand, operationally you won’t notice the increase in speed but you will notice the increase in price, (at some point.  I bet it won’t stay discounted forever).  And what makes you think 150Mb/s will still be available to downgrade to?  After all, if no one is using it anymore, they’ll remove it as an option.

But like you say, you can always move and I have zero loyalty to BT these days.  They’ve blown that with me over the last few years.

I suppose we just agree to disagree on this one.

Re: BT offer to increase speeds

@WSH Take a chill pill. not everything is as you think. Using your idea, nobody uses 74 on FTTP BUT it's still available to order so why would they not have removed it already

Re: BT offer to increase speeds

Interesting people have been offered 150 to 500 free.  I've now had two emails offering it for £1 - but can't log in through the email and if I use the usual log in route the offer isn't there.

I feel discriminated against now!  No way would I pay £1 more, and I'm already miffed that when I re-contracted a few mths ago, just before the annual increase, the BT adviser was absolutely adamant that the annual increase had been reduced from £4 to £3.

Re: BT offer to increase speeds

Good morning @Rory

I've double checked this offer with our team, and they've mentioned that a small number of ineligible FTTC customers were sent this email in error.

If this is the case, logging in via the link will not work, and you should have also received a follow-up email around this.

Re: BT offer to increase speeds

If you're offered something "better/faster etc" for the same price then take it.

I'm not with BT anymore but my ISP is offering 1000 for the same price as my 500 deal so took it although the best D/L speed I get is about 750 with my U/L at around 900. Not bad for £29 fixed for 24 months.

Re: BT offer to increase speeds

@TimCurtis  I’d agree with you if you were perhaps only a couple of months into a an existing contract with BT, but if one is perhaps already 18 or 20 months into an existing contract, I personally wouldn’t and that’s why I won’t take up Plusnet’s £1 extra a month tickler. The reason is simple, I’m currently paying £36.99 a month (now in my second year) for 500mbps and so if I went to 900, clearly that would increase to £37.99 a month but then, I’d be moved onto a new 24 month contract. If I sit it out until the end of my current contract, I can move to a new ISP and get 900mbps for as little as £25.99 a month (last time I checked prices). I doubt there will be much of an increase in the interim as ISP’s are desperate to attract new customers.

Re: BT offer to increase speeds

One contributor who posted on here who took this BT offer confirmed that there was no extra contractual obligation, this offer didn’t extend the minimum term , perhaps if Plusnet are making an offer that’s similar they do require a new minimum rem , but this isn’t a Plusnet forum so it’s somewhat irrelevant adding it to a discussion about a BT offer .

Re: BT offer to increase speeds

@iniltous  Whilst accepting that Plusnet's offer isn't relevant to a BT offer, I have just checked my own situation, and I can confirm that if I were to accept the Plusnet offer, it would be cheaper than my current deal by £3 a month, but then in March 2027, it would increase by the annual £4 a month inflation rise. It is also subject to re-contracting on a new two year deal. I'm surprised therefore that BT are currently allegedly offering a simple £1 a month extra on an existing contract with no further contractual obligation, i.e. an existing customer not being required to accept a new two year contract. If that really is the case, then that's a great deal and if I were with BT and I only had a few months left on my contract, I'd absolutely pay the extra quid a month knowing I could leave penalty free if I wished to at the end of the existing contract.

But labouring my existing point having just checked a very well known comparison website, 900mbps FTTP is currently available from another BT partner, for just £25.99 a month for brand new customers with a significant Reward card offer thrown in. BT, who I would more than happily return to for broadband only service, are £6 a month more for essentially exactly the same product. To make matters worse, all of the BT Group are now slamming new customers with a £30 a month setup cost for new customers when other ISP's currently aren't.
