CSP cover replacement

Go to solution

Due to severe weathering the cover for the CSP on the external wall of my house has completly broken apart exposing the internal fibre  to the elements. How would I get this repaired ? would be OpenReach or is it BT I need to contact?

Re: CSP cover replacement

The lid of a CSP is secured to the main body by two screws , and is a compression fit , so how did the lid become open and capable of being damaged by the ‘weather’ ?, if it were a recent install you could argue it was never secured at installation , but how long has this been installed ?, BTW , I don’t think the lid can be replaced separately, the entire CSP would need replacing, requiring the wiring to be removed from one CSP , reintroduced into the new CSP and re spliced.

It no doubt just aesthetics, there is nothing metal to corrode, although the lid should be in place to stop potential interference with the fibres rather than any adverse performance issues ( it would work happily completely submerged under water for example )

….if BT are your provider ( it’s not clear if they are ) you could try to report it , but under what guise, and would it be potentially chargeable ?, report it  to Openreach directly ?, the reporting form for damaged or dangerous OR ‘plant’ is normally Openreach plant sited on public property ( roads and footpaths where no individual is could be deemed responsible for damage ) not individual equipment on property where that individual can be deemed responsible if damage is more than reasonable wear and tear

So it sounds like you are saying that neither BT or Openreach will deal with it?

It was installed many years ago as part of FTTP trial  and I would guess that the material that was used then is no longer used for the cover as over time it has just become brittle and effectively fallen apart. The cover has not been opened as such but about half of the cover face has face has just broken away . Shame I cant upload a photo to show.

Re: CSP cover replacement

I’m not saying it doesn’t need attention, just that the process isn’t particularly clear ( and TBH , in most cases I would suggest it’s going to be more than simply wear and tear if a CSP is not intact ) , but , if BT are your provider, presumably the correct procedure would be to report it to them , the exact nature of the fault report is tricky , you may need to be creative, once you get a visit arranged and the Openreach tech is on site , no doubt they would replace the broken CSP with a new one.

TBH , if your install was part of a trial , the CSP may well be of a different design to those that are fitted currently.

Re: CSP cover replacement

To update - I contacted OpenReach damage repair team who said they would send an engineer out within 4 hours. They did this and replaced the CSP cover with a new one which is of  a far more robust plastic than the material used in the original one. No hassle and top marks for OpenReach speedy response on dealing with this.
