End of BT BB Contract

Go to solution

So my contract ending and I fancied going  from  500mbs to the 900 fibre package.

Quoted

 £42.99 a month Increases to £46.99 on 31 March 2026,
then increases to £50.99 on 31 March 2027 £5.00 a month increase in month 25 £0 activation 24 month contract.

Checked price for new customers, completely different and cheaper over two years!!

Tried with customer services and will not budge from the price.  Only real  alternative  stay on  on fibre 500 and then sign a contract for another two years.

Terrible that new customers are treated better than loyal customers.

I am sure lots in the same position.   I will have to look carefully at other vendors although I actually like BT and would prefer not to leave!!

when you say tried with CS was that retentions 08007831401?  if not you can try that making sure you know what BT current offers are for new customers and also what other ISPs are offering.  if you don't like it  and provided you don't have DV then move to another ISP - simple using the one touch switching process

"Terrible that new customers are treated better than loyal customers."

It is indeed and it gives the lie to BT's "price promise" which states: "existing customers will never pay more then new customers - no exceptions".
And yes, I know that this relies on existing customers being on Halo "deals" which are never offered to new customers, but this is really just playing with words to justify what is, it has to be said, a lie.
I do wonder why OFCOM allows BT to get away with this dishonesty.

@imjolly

Out of curiosity, why did you say “provided you don't have DV then move to another ISP”?

I realise only a few ISPs offer voip service, so it reduces the choices, but is there another reason you said that?

I only mentioned DV as that may be better moved to separate VOIP  provider and broadband to a new ISP eg Plusnet who no longer provide phone services

Spoke to retentions and cut a long story short, moving to EE on a new  900 Fibre contract in my name at the same price as the BT 900, complete with new modem.  Happy with that.

@Orient

Well done 👍

But just for clarity, you as a BT Customer, called BT Retentions and they have effectively convinced you to migrate to EE at a cheaper price? Or have I read that completely wrong?

If I’ve read it the way I see it, then it appears to be a convenient way of getting a BT customer off the books and bam! suddenly, you’re an EE customer. One could be forgiven that this is the future. I’m such a cynic 😆
