Fibre in - is the copper removed?

Hi,

My FTTP / Digital Voice BT upgrade due to be fitted next week.

I see from other posts that some installers remove the copper wire at the same time as installing the fibre, and some don’t. I guess it is maybe down to circumstances and time limitations.

Just wondering - is the comms connection to the copper line removed by BT whether the old cable is physically removed or not? If it is not, and the copper wire install is left untouched, would it be possible, in the event of a power cut, to unplug the landline base station from the SH2 router and plug it back into the old BT wall box in order to make calls?

Also, is the cable that runs internally from the CSP into the property pre-terminated in pre-prepared lengths or is it cut and terminated on site?

Re: Fibre in - is the copper removed?

The copper would have no function once FTTP is installed. Phone connections would only be over BT Digital Voice. The PSTN connection will be ceased.

If you want service to continue during a power cut, then you will need to install a mains backup unit.
