Just upgraded my BT broadband to full fibre 2 days ago. All seems good except the speed. I’m on the 700-900 mbps tariff but so I’ve seldom exceeded 300 on my direct connection to my computer. The engineer said it needs to settle down, give it 10 days. Is it going to suddenly get faster? Do I need to be patient?
You say you upgraded your broadband...are you still using the same router?
Yes, no change to my setup.
Thanks for that. I checked my hub setup - it says the WAN connection is 1000. I guess that rules out that it has been incorrectly setup as a 300mbps connection?
My neighbour is having his full fibre setup today (the cabling was setup for the whole road at the same time and we're on the same "circuit", so I'll check with him what speed he is getting.
I've got a BT Smart Hub 2 - the engineer said it wasn't the latest model - no port was marked as WAN but he put the ethernet connection in port 4 and changed some setting in the router - not sure what, I'm no techie.
Failing all this I'll contact BT.
While the Smarthub has been exceeded by the Smarthub2 it should still be capable of achieving your package speeds.
Use the speed tester Fast.com. It is the one used by Openreach.
Before doing that it might be worth doing a factory reset on your Smarthub then carry out the speed test.
If it is lower than 850Mbps there is a problem. It may be your package speed has not been set correctly. If that is the case you will need to contact BT 0330.1234.150 and inform then that the install is not correct.
The WAN connection speed isn’t your profile speed , it’s the speed the ONT and router talk to each other , not the ONT to the headend in the exchange , so it’s not proof either way of your connection set as 1Gb ( sold as 900Mb )
BT can ‘see’ if your equipment is compatible if you upgrade , presumably you upgraded from BT FTTC , if the hub were incompatible a new one sent automatically, that’s not to say it can’t be faulty , but as stated are you sure your equipment is OK , if it’s not OK , it may have seemed fine on 80Mb , but is found wanting once you push 900Mb at it .
You can do a ‘proper’ speed test from your My BT account , but obviously you can also contact BT if your speed is below the minimum speed guarantee, you don’t need to wait 10 days ,
Contacted BT. All their checks suggests the problem is at my end, so to eliminate the possibility of my 5 year old BT modem being the problem, the lovely lady from Belfast agreed to send a replacement upgraded model.
Thanks for all the help.

There is no 'upgraded model'.
