Full fibre upgrade via pole?

Go to solution

My sister has a really really slow Internet BT connection with Fibre halo 3. She has just had digital voice set up but they didnt offer any fibre upgrade.

She pays £78.77 a month for broadband which seems a lot for an extremely slow connection.

Her phone line comes high up into her house from a line that comes from a telegraph pole in the road outside. If eventually she can get full fibre would this come via the telegraph pole or does it have to go underground?

if currently connected from pole then fibre connection would come from same pole

try entering the address and post results including all the notes  this will show what connections are available

In the vast majority of cases, the existing copper service method (overhead or underground) is also used for FTTP , so if she is currently overhead service from a pole , that’s how FTTP will also be delivered…..assuming FTTC is what your sister currently has , that’s around £28 for 80Mb or with a phone service on PAYG for £31-33 , so they are paying way more than necessary , Halo 3+ adds around £15 -£20 , so even with that taken into account, over £60 is too much , they are either out if contract on a legacy (and expensive) package or have other add ons , TV for example.

if out if contract they should negotiate a better deal , If remaining as they are one  if the benefits of Halo is an upgrade to FTTP once it’s available for free without  recontracting .

The £78.77 is just the broadband/line. On top of that she pays for voicemail and unlimited calls.

@sue-1

As you can see from the ADSL results there is no FTTP available currently. Fibre on demand is not the same and a business product

Hi @sue-1   Unfortunately that is the Halo3 benefit, if they can persuade BT to drop it (unlikely) that will halve the price.

Oh I see thank you. I thought 'fibre on demand' might mean it would be available 😞

So looks like she's stuck with an awfully slow broadband (and poor mobile signal). At least her new BT digital voice service is working OK so far which she had been worried about.

It just seems a lot to pay for a poor broadband signal. I will pass on your comments thank you all.
