Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

Who were these lads exactly? Never heard of BT doing door-to-door selling directly - were they in fact freelance agents making commission from trying to get people to switch supplier?

As well as the fact fibre is not coming anytime soon, you will be annoyed on additional two fronts I imagine:

1) Vodafone sell full fibre services over Openreach fibre. You didn't have to switch supplier to get fibre when it became available.

2) Full fibre services often work out cheaper than connections over copper cable; don't assume they will be the same cost or more expensive.

I think you need to look carefully at any paperwork you were given to work out who these people were exactly, and maybe contact the Direct Sellers Association (on the off chance they work for a company that is part of that organisation).

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

I had two visits from OR guys saying that they’d finished doing the ground work and that Full Fibre was now available from my local exchange, the only thing they were too late as I’d already seen them digging the trenches for the full fibre cabling.

So I was able to explain to them on both occasions that I’d already made the switch.

I think if you see them digging trenches for the cabling, then check the OR website again, or wait until they pop round.

Because around my way, they worked on a Sunday.

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

You do realise this is quite an old thread?

In practical terms, I think it’s guesswork and wait and see.

I’ve had an interest registered with OR for a couple of years now.  Their checker continued to say ‘building sometime between now and December 2026’ right up until last week when an email turned up, out of the blue, saying it’s now available.

While I suspected Bidb, (Better Internet Dashboard, bidb.uk), was showing signs of the backbone being put in around the town over the past 6 months, I’ve seen nothing on this estate.

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

Someone is out putting telegraph poles on the street in our area.  It is a 1968 build estate and the copper is laid directly into the ground, no conduits.

I can't think of a logical explanation other than the intention to string fibre along them.   One would have thought perhaps that this would show up on the Fibre Checker which states:  "We have no plans to build Full Fibre to this property yet"

Maybe some enterprising person has taken it on themselves to create a fibre connection and sell it onto the residents directly?  Or perhaps the poles are for exercise only - how far can you climb up before you reach the footholds?

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

New poles have notices on them  ( and before they are put up in the same location should be a pre pole notice  on a stake in the ground or a convenient structure like a lamp-post  ) so it should be easy to tell who the poles belong to , it isn’t necessarily Openreach .

how far can you climb up before you reach the footholds? …why would you want to know this  ?

Take a look at this.  If you click on the coloured highlights, it will show who applied for the planning application.

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

Excellent - it is indeed BT Openreach.  Which begs the question as to why it's not listed on Fibre Checker as per my OP.

"how far can you climb up before you reach the footholds? …why would you want to know this  ?"

I postulated this in my post and you have lopped it off.

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

Depends whose checker you're looking at.  Openreach's own should know what is going on, of course, but OFCOM's or BT's checker won't get updated until Openreach inform them and that won't be until they have finished and gone "ready for service".

Edit: Unfortunately, there is a lot to be done in the background, besides just putting poles in.  It could still many months before it is ready.

What you could do is go on Openreach's website and register an interest.  Then they would drop you an email when it is ready to order.
