Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

As stated the Fibre checker, https://www.openreach.com/fibre-checker/my-products, comes up with "We have no plans to build Full Fibre to this property yet" hence my flippant remark about exercise climbing poles.  Left and right hand disconnect?

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

You didn't say which "fibre checker" you were looking at but no matter.

As I said, it may be early days.  There is a lot to do behind the scenes.  I know of one place where it was almost two years from start to RFS (Ready for Service).

I wish you all the best, good luck.

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

Openreach FTTP rollout is massive, individual areas are under local build mangers control , so what gets done when to a certain extent is subject to local decision making , so expecting national checker sites to be 100% accurate all the time is unrealistic, if poles have appeared with the checker apparently contradicting this , then the physical evidence clearly is indicating some work towards FTTP being available is taking place , If further work takes place , CBT’s and associated cabling installed on the new poles etc  ,  at that point the checker may change , or perhaps it won’t , you may be frustrated by that , but it’s not necessary for OR to keep the public appraised , the information always comes with a warning that it’s not necessarily accurate or upto date …the acid test is when WBC FTTP availability is shown either on individual ISP checkers , or here

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

Oddly enough, when I check my own broadband availability using https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome
It shows me that both FTTP and FTTC are "unavailable"
That's strange because I am already getting FTTC at pretty near 80Mbps to the Hub.
So, it seems these checkers are pretty unreliable.
Or could it be that, if I wanted another broadband connection to my house, FTTC would be unavailable because all the connections in the cabinet are in use?

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

@iniltous

Firstly I've had good information in response to my query for which I am grateful.

Our area is covered by Virgin Media.  Ours was connected when we purchased the property 10yrs ago but at the time we elected to reconnect the BT line.  Our new next door neighbour who works from home elected to drop BT and connect Virgin Media and we were recently minded to do the same because the BTOpenreach checkers, and any others I could find, stated "No plans in this area".  I had a call with BT about digital voice a couple of months ago and the seemingly knowledgeable assistant also said "No plans".

I wonder how many people around here are connecting to Virgin because of the lack of information from BT/BTOpenreach.

Somebody knows there ARE plans because plans have been approved.  Somebody is responsible for putting the plans on line, so unless it is policy then there is, as my experience has often shown, a disconnect in large organisations.   How much better would it have been to have seen  "Good news, we are commencing plans to bring Fibre to your area.  There is a lot of work to do but you will see poles appear and activity in your area.  Click here to ensure you are kept abreast of updates".

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

@chrisjp

On the checker , SoGEA is the column to check for FTTC ( confusingly not the FTTC column) so FTTC does show as unavailable on every PCP as that’s associated with WLR .

@old_email ,

an endeavour is made to keep the checker ‘current’ but the programme is so large that some mistakes are inevitable, if some individual potential customers chose an alternative thinking that Openreach FTTP availability is much further away than it actually is because of an apparent error on the checker site , that’s unfortunate (from Openreach’s point of view) but it doesn’t take away from the efficacy of publishing the ‘plans’ , and as stated who knows the actual metrics, perhaps it’s only when further work takes place the checker status changes , in some places it’s entirely possible some visible work takes place , but plans, budgets, policies change and no further work is done for months or years …as stated the checker site is indicative at best .

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

Came home today and the poles now have cables attached.  Somebody had better tell sales to crack on.

Re: How to Check Full Fibre Rollout?

Don't get all excited, it could still be months before the rest of the work is completed. Fibre is rather like an iceberg, the bit you can see is just a small proportion of the total.
