Re: Issues with changing to FTTP

Ports are auto sensing.

I'm afraid you have unrealistic expectations if you think anybody on this forum can second guess what the individual installer will or will not be prepared to do on the day.

Thanks for the clarification on ports being auto-sensing.

Re: Issues with changing to FTTP

Right...I'm looking at the basic situation that the CSP will be outside on the front wall and the ONT inside in the hall, with a hole through the wall for the incoming fibre cable.

In an attempt to make life easier for the engineer, and also to make sure that the hole ends up inside exactly where I want it (so as to avoid getting in the way of future work) I'm quite happy to drill the hole myself in readiness. BUT....what diameter hole is needed? As with everything else, there is a distinct lack of detail available 😞

Does anyone know please? Otherwise I may resort to drilling a narrow pilot hole (for guidance) and leave it for the engineer to widen as necessary.

Re: Issues with changing to FTTP

I seem to recall 12mm being mentioned but @iniltous would be a better one to answer that.

Re: Issues with changing to FTTP

TBH , I don’t know , so I Google’d it , the inside out cable typically used by Openreach is 5mm diameter , with a 3mm inner core (after the external rugged jacket is stripped off ) techs typically drill a 10-12mm hole .
As far as distinct lack of information about the cable size , for 99.9% if installations this information is of absolute no use to the customer .

Re: Issues with changing to FTTP

Personally I wouldn't do anything and simply wait for the installer rather than trying to cross non existent bridges before you get to them.
