Engineer says they need permission from my housing association to fit fibre but i do not know who to contact
"
Thankyou for your alteration request regarding BT engineers fitting broadband into the flats.
My colleague spoke with the BT engineer on site today and asked if he could give more technical information regarding the fixings he would be using and if would damage the fabric of the building and if it did would they fix any damage caused .
Is it possible for the engineer to give more information as to how the fixings are attached and if any damage did occur, they would be liable to fix it before we give permission to allow the broad band to be fitted"
Does the Engineer need to run the Cabling Internally or Externally?
If it’s Internally then they’ll have to use the appropriate fire proofing to attach the cable to the wall(s).
Then if it’s External it could be they need to do a dig from the Joint Box to the building.
to be honest it could be 2 dozen different things that need doing… I assume the Engineer didn’t explain it to you as to what needs doing?
do you know or have you checked to see if any other tenants in your flats complex have actually had fibre installed already and if so which company?
Nah nobody has it in the block. This would be first one
Ok so basically what the problem is....
All these f lats have that outside cladding put in. Like special insulation. Now the housing association basically says if u damage it they want £40k or something. Now the BT engineer needs to drill holes into the bricks below the cladding for some reason and run the cable from the black box at the bck of the building to my window and drill through (the cladding). My housing officer needs t oknow exactly what the engineer needs to do and i have no idea how to ask them so my officer can give permissiom
Your landlord would appear to be very unhelpful with this. At some point he/she/the company is going to have to bite the bullet and either install Fibre himself or allow his customers to do that or he will find that the property will be very difficult to let if there is no fibre broadband allowed to be installed by his tennants.
You or rather the landlord would need to contact Openreach and speak to them about the installation.
Openreach Phone Numbers
Unfortunately its not a landlord so much as social housing and they're absolutely horrendous. I've spoken on phone and i think i understand what needs done. The old housing officer didnt want the cladding damaged (he seems to think theyre works of art or something) but newer officer was being talked round. I'll see how i get on. Attached pics of what is needing done . I think he's more on board with BT because the box is at the back of the building whereas Virgin is at the front.
Forget the black box that is for copper connections. A new fibre cable from the pole (possibly to the same bracket the copper wire uses) down to the ground floor where it will terminate at the CSP ( a small box for the fibre splice).
An ONT (modem) will be fitted internally in your flat, hole for fibre cable drill to outside, the cable would be clipped around to the CSP, cut to leangth and spliced. That is basically it.
Oh right the engineer was talking about running a cable from that box so dunno. Yeh it doesnt seem like an unreasonable request like. Its just the drilling into my flat theyll prob have an issue with but all the flats are like this and a lot of people are just lying to the engineers and saying they have permission so sure its a matter of time before they have to conceed
If the can’t attach cabling to the cladding then they’ll have to look at an MDU type build and run it internally.
