Re: MyBT app speed test not working after upgrade

To give the speed at the device the "data" has to pass through the hub so if it is good it must be good to the hub. The hub can not make it faster than what is input.

You have not answered "If it is not particularly uncommon for your FTTP to have "degraded" performance have you reported a fault?"

Reported the fault. And I replied previously.

No. You have reported a faulty app.

I was asking if you have reported a fault with your broadband because you stated " it is not particularly uncommon for your FTTP to have "degraded" performance.

If that is the case it must be faulty.

Re: MyBT app speed test not working after upgrade

With respect, I and many others, if the posts on this forum are representative, are experiencing the very same issue with the "MyBT" app. More to the point and whilst many customers are also experiencing intermittent drops in connectivity, BT/Openreach continue to claim that the incoming signal to the ONT is infallible, which has been proved not to be the case. Personally, it begs the question as to the motives, of the so called "distinguished sages" upon this platform, with specific regard to their overzealous criticism, of anyone who has anything negative to say about BT. Food for thought.

Re: MyBT app speed test not working after upgrade

There are only 3 reasons for a degraded fibre signal.

A poor splice, a too acute bend in the fibre or a dirty connector.

The first 2 should be apparent at the installation stage when the light level is measured. The third only occurs if the connector is disconnected and replaced without the fibre being cleaned with the correct tool.

There is also only a very tiny window between a good signal and no signal. The light level being in that tiny window causing a degraded signal is very rare.

I assume you realise that with FTTP, up to 30 customers are sharing 2.5Gbs backhaul. So if everyone is hammering their connection, your throughput is going to be reduced.

Can you point out where I have been over zealous with criticism!

In case I "criticise" you again I will happily leave you to languish in your own self pity about the BT speed tester!

Re: MyBT app speed test not working after upgrade

With respect, you have neatly summed up the dilemma, that I and many other’s customers are experiencing. Personally, I have never disputed the fact that the issue with the incoming signal to the ONT is rare and therefore, obviously hard to trace. However, you appear to have kindly confirmed that this is a known fault, but only occurs within a tiny window, when the light signal is degraded, which causes the connection to drop. The bottom line is that BT/Openreach, appear reluctant to admit that their remote monitoring mechanisms are fallible, in that they consistently fail to record this specific problem, which has been referred to as a "Stale PPP Session Fault”. In my case, the issue was only identified, because I had been allowed to run the https://pbtcsc.saas.nokia - Hub Smart Speed Testlink, simultaneously to the remote tests being carried out by a BT technician. As my results contradicted those being supplied to him, it was established that for some unknown reason, he was receiving "hereditary " and not "live" readings. Going forward, this forum has identified that upgrading the ONT, has resolved the issue for some customers. However and in my case, an onsite Openreach engineer declined this specific instruction from a remote BT Technician, because he could not gain authorisation from his manager. It appeared to be a question of who would forfeit the costs.

Re: MyBT app speed test not working after upgrade

As regards the MyBT app speed test, it hadn't worked since downgrading my product on 9th July.  Although it had been reported on numerous occasions since then, it wasn't until I made a formal complaint, that the issue was addressed. Ironically, it was working normally over the weekend, but today, instead of conducting the speed test, it has reverted back to rebooting the smart Hub.

Re: MyBT app speed test not working after upgrade

Correct. I reported a faulty app.
I reported a faulty app because I had experienced a spate of degraded performance (evidenced by protracted buffering of YouTube videos and slow responses from a variety of mainstream content for example BBC news).
I reported both these in my call to BT.
Testing with other speed tester options corroborated my concerns that the upload speeds were unusually low for a gigabit connection. Sub-200Mb on occasion.
My concern was that there may be a fault in the system and that failure of the “test my speed” facility in the MyBT app was preventing me from verifying whether my speed to hub was within guaranteed spec.
I posted here in the hope of assistance to encourage BT to appreciate that the app was broken by establishing whether it was just me or were others experiencing similar… both broken app and unusual degradation of performance.

Re: MyBT app speed test not working after upgrade

Since Openreach claimed to have resolved the issue with the MyBT app, it only seems to work at the weekend. Any suggestions? In the meantime, the intermittent "Stale PPP Session faults" continue.
