ONT Number

How can i convert myserial Number beginning ALCLF9 into an ONT Number please. The line is mine but husband is near a stoke trying to sort this out. Thnakinh you advance

That is the serial number , it’s not a decimal number that’s why it’s got letters in it , hexadecimal is base 16 , if asked for the S/N you don’t need to convert it , you simply read it out

Thank ever so for your reply. We have two ONT inputs into our property which untill recently both worked and BT took a monthly sum of £140.00. Then one of them stopped working, the reason i asked is that i know which ONT does not work by the Serial number, will that be good enough if i try to go to another ISP. Thanking you in advance

Depends on the ISP you chose , if your address has two services ( or had two services ) the new ISP should ask which one of the two is to be taken over , the serial number of the ONT is the way to differentiate between the two services, if they don’t ask then they have a 50/50 chance of  taking over the correct one .

If one of the two services has stopped working , and you are still paying for it , why haven’t you reported it as faulty ?

Thank you for your reply, my husband has spent 20+ hours on the phone, it started quite simply one line in my hasbands name and one in my name. My husband upgraded to EE busiest Bundle, on the 19th July when thay put in the Nokia ONT 2.5Gb ONT, my service stopped hence the phone calls. The nat result was a fellow from Scotland stated we cannot have two lines into property but, if we recontract they should be able to do something. That he felt uncacceptable. all i would like to know is if we take a new contract to make sure the correct ONT. sorry if it sounds a mess my husband is beyond mad. Thanking you in advance

Changing out the ONT for a 2.5Gb one is necessary if getting a speed in excess of 1Gb ( the limit on the previous ONT ) but that in itself has no baring on the other service …you don’t say who that service was with , but unless it’s BT , this forum isn’t really the appropriate place for your comments .

Assuming it was BT providing the service that you no longer have ( the service on the remaining 1Gb ONT ) then EE is irrelevant, report it not working to BT , that’s got nothing to do with EE .

If both services were with EE  ( then this BT forum isn’t really appropriate ) but in general there is no barrier to having two services unless EE have some self imposed limit , if they decide to only give one service that’s entirely up to them , but obviously if you are paying for both they should supply both , if they have ceased one and stopped charging for it , then if that’s their policy, there isn’t anything you can do about that .

It worth mentioning that if you both had 900Mb services , which is actually 1Gb but sold as 900Mb to keep the advertising industry happy , then effectively doubling the speed of one to the 2Gb ( sold as 1.6Gb service  ) sort of makes the second service redundant, you basically have the same speed from one ONT that you had from two ( that’s assuming both were 900 ) , if one or both services were less than 900 then the aggregate speed is more than doubled, so why do you need 1.6Gb and more ? 

 

Perhaps you have a reason to have 2 separate services , but apart from redundancy on a power failure on an ONT , there is no realistic backup  , because optically both the are the same ( the same fibre to the headend ) , so any failure is likely to affect both ( that’s  assuming you get the second one back into service ) 

if your intention is to simply more the other service to a new ISP , contact whoever that is , and ‘hope’ they take over the ‘service’  on the 1Gb ONT .
