Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

We have fibre to cabinet but the cabinet is quite a distance away and our mobile signal is not great.

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

8Mb/s would suggest a couple of Km away.  The graph shows what I mean.  (Images go into quarantine until a moderator releases them, so you won't be able to see it for a while).

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

Thank you, it is roughly half a mile away. I think our connection became worse after full fibre was brought in for the new developments in the village. Is it likely that their full fibre connection is connected to the same cabinet.

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

No, full fibre doesn't use the cabinet at all.  It's a completely separate system.  (In fact, it may even come from a completely different exchange, as the fibre optic signal can travel a lot further than copper.  Long term plan is to close about 4,600 of the current 5,600 exchanges by 2040, as full fibre will only need 1000).

8Mb/s is about a third of what you should be getting then.   Clearly there is some sort of problem, even if it is just the age of it.

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

It has been progressively getting worse for 2 years and much worse since March this year.

Thank you, so much for your input. BT should not be charging people high prices for a service this poor.

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

If you put the name of your exchange in here, under "Locality" and click Lookup Locality, it will give you a link to the data on that exchange.  Click on that and it will tell you what is planned for its future.

Anyway, I'm off to bed, so I'll wish you goodnight.

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

@IrememberBuzby

If you used the link I posted that would show what is available to you and also what speeds on a erage you should expect and can be compared to the hub stats if you posted them.   Up to you as  forum members have no information which we can help you with

Cabinet 2.png

Hi, I had to restart my Hub again, to be able to do this. I have another engineer booked. If you could tell me what this all means it would be very helpful. Thank you

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

that confirms you are a long way from your cabinet as estimate speed is between  15.3/8.8mb down and 1.3/0.8 mb up.  there is no full fibre available - fibre on demand is not the same and expensive for business

there is no date given when area is expected to get full fibre

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

Your estimate of the distance to the cabinet is way off , the speed you get is appropriate for a distance around 2500 m to 3500 m from the cabinet (not half a mile or around 800 m ) , in the past ,  at this distance from the cabinet, exchange based ADSL would perform better than FTTC  , but that’s no longer on offer especially as you have a telephone service associated with your broadband service , if you were moved from ADSL to FTTC (because of the PSTN switch off ) and your problems coincided with this , then it may be that your FTTC is effectively working at its limits , that unfortunately is just physics, there is a point where the service just can’t work reliably.

To give any real help ( using real data ) you really need to post your router connection statistics, preferably twice , once when performance is poor , then again just after you have reset the router and performance has improved, without this then this thread is somewhat pointless , you have a service you are disappointed in , the provider has offered you the option to leave penalty free , but you presumably are not going to take that option, your provider has (on the face of it ) explored every avenue to improve service , all replaceable items have been replaced , your home checked (even though arguably this isn’t your provider responsibility) and Openreach have visited multiple times .

If your assertion that the problem is it’s the failing Openreach copper network that is responsible and OR are unwilling to replace or repair it as it’s uneconomical with FTTP on the horizon then what exactly do you expect, you have in effect been given a choice , accept this services limitations or make alternative arrangements, and if you do  have an alternative from a low earth satellite service for example, then perhaps you should consider that .

FYI , if you  do post your router stats , could you try and make sure the images are sufficiently detailed (from a resolution perspective) as your DSL (BTw) return is impossible to make out (for me at least )
