Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

Cable routes are not necessarily ‘as the crow flies’ or the most direct route following roads etc , if your predicted speed is 10-15Mb then you are not on an 800 m cable length otherwise your prediction would be more like 25Mb , but as stated the image is unreadable for me so I’m assuming the post saying your anticipated speed is 8-15Mb as accurate, you can see this yourself on the graph that charts speed against distance, VDSL2+ is what you are most likely on .
The checker results you have posted with the anticipated speed for your address is known as the DSL checker ( a title it seems to be referred to as for a long time , possibly Digital Subscriber Line but it’s etymology is a little irrelevant  , it’s just what it’s known as .
What is needed from your router , is the connection rate , this  is the current speed your router has negotiated with the FTTC cabinet and the max attainable speed , this is as the name implies the rate at which , in a perfect world the router could connect, if they are massively different this can indicate an issue , there are other useful statistics, noise margin , line attention etc which is why posting the entire thing is preferable , obscuring any info you want to be kept anonymous like SSID , MAC address , telephone number etc

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

Thank you, for your help, knowledge and input into my issue. I had an engineer here this morning who recorded 4.5Mbps Download and this time stated and recorded packet loss. Hopefully this is going to be fixable as BT is under contract to provide a usable service.

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

are you sure that is the cabinet you are connected to.  you may not be connected to the nearest cabinet.  the street cabinet will have a number on it and the results of the dslchecker you posted will show the cabinet number which you are connected to - are they the same?

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

As stated , without the router connection statistics, recording 4.5Mb download in itself is of no use , is that inside or outside of the line potential, does it prove anything ?
You have a misguided opinion on what BT is obliged to provide to you  , there is a 10Mb USO (universal service obligation) but that can be satisfied by mobile , if you have a USO ‘claim’ once accepted by BT that you qualify, it’s a 12-24 month window to get you to 10Mb on a different network to the current one , if the current one is already capable of 10Mb plus , then it should be made to provide it , this is Openreach responsibility not BT and the USO.

In your case you have already had a tacit acceptance from BT that the service currently is below the expected service level , the offer for you to leave without any contractual obligations on your part is the penalty BT pay for that , if you chose to not take that ‘release’ that’s up-to you .

If , for example, you posted your line statistics which showed a max attainable of 18Mb , then 4Mb would almost certainly indicate an issue that Openreach need to address , if you don’t think BT are ‘pushing’ OR to address this sufficiently , then change provider to one you think will push OR  , but 4Mb download in isolation means nothing , for some 4Mb is all their location can expect, without your router stats we don’t know what you can reasonably expect .

If you don’t want to provide this info (and that’s fine BTW ) it just makes it difficult to know what you expect to achieve posting here , this is a customer to customer forum , not a alternative way to report issues to BT .

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

Actually the contract states BT have 30 days to fix it or allow you to cancel free of charge. If it can't be fixed they're doing the right thing

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

@IrememberBuzby   having seen the full size version of the graph I posted, I would have to agree with @iniltous , the distance has got to be a lot more than 800m.  That was based on you saying 24Mb/s and even then I was being clearly being too generous.

@iniltous As far as the image resolution goes, I picked up a good tip from another guru on here the other day, (conrad).  If you right click the image and copy the image address, paste it into the address bar and then delete everything in the address after the id number, it come up full screen.

Re: Ongoing Broadband Fault

Unfortunately I can’t do that on an iPad , so it’s only a 50KB low resolution PNG , TBH , I don’t know why images on here have stopped appearing with a ‘+’ symbol that shows the full image rather than a poor resolution preview, I’d assumed it was the poster selecting something incorrectly rather than a forum wide issue
