Outside work done before full fibre installation

Hi

We have halo broadband with bt at the moment with landline.

Ive been told by BT different methods of the process of installing full fibre broadband.

1.  When you order full fibre a surveyor will come out  at an appointed time and see what needs to be dug up ie grass, chippings or stones moved, block paving moved etc so the contractors can come by appointment only and lay cables prior to engineer connecting us up by pre arranged time

or

2.  A surveyor does not come out but contractors turn up unannounced and start digging etc to lay cables without us having to be there or pre-warning us what they will do and not getting our permission.  Obviously everyones situation is different.   Then BT confirm time and date engineer will come to connect us up.

I would love to hear the correct way BT go about this using Openreach to do the work and your personal experiences

Re: Outside work done before full fibre installation

if you already have service via a Metallic Path then they wouldn’t send a Surveyor out on a Step 1.

When a PON is Planned, by a Clerk of Works they’ll enter something called an SNN, Serving Network Node for each Property.

So for example they’ll say one house is Fed via Pole with No Anticipated Issues so it can be done on a One Step Install.

If the House is known to be currently fed by a Direct in Ground Cable they should put it as such, which would mark it up for a Step 1 Task being required at point of Sale.

A Technician/Engineer from Openreach will then randomly show up at your house. Agree with you where you’d like them to dig and he/she will submit something called an A55 to Civils.

They'll also get you to Sign a PTD, Permission to Dig Form. There is an Option on this Form for you to tick to be present when Civils come to do the dig if you so wish to do so.

enter your address here , if FTTP is available , the FTTP install process should state 1stage or KCI2 assure, and the SNN will look like this

Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential UG Feed with no anticipated issues.

What do these show for your address ?

OR or their contractor shouldn’t simply turn up on a 2 stage install and start excavating in someone’s garden without consulting the property owner ( or their representatives ) , but it’s also possible that if it’s a pretty obvious path across a soft surface ( like a lawn ) and  the excavation ‘scar’  would soon disappear, the owner may elect not to be present until the 2nd stage visit .
