Outside work done before full fibre installation

Hi all

More than likely having full fibre done in the new year.  currently have fibre broadband which is more the adequate for us.  its used for laptop, 2 mobiles, 2 smart TVs and the printer is wireless, quite small really.

Our phone line is analogue which we will get rid off and never use it.  The access points for FF are just over our small garden wall  in the path so all that will need to be done  will be for openreach to somehow drill through the garden wall and bury it under the stone chippings, not a problem.  Now we know where we want the new hardware to go to on front wall under bay window.  The current analogue main point is in the hallway  with 5 more analogue spurs dotted around the house which will all become redundant as they all use copper wiring including hall.  Im sure I am correct here??

Question it do openreach prefer to use old analogue point inside as is use the space for new  router etc( outside is buried under concrete for the last 50 years) so how on earth would they do that without having to dig up garden and drive?

Or as previously mentioned "The access points for FF are just over our small garden wall  in the path so all that will need to be done  will be for openreach to somehow drill through the garden wall and bury it under the stone chippings, not a problem.  Now we know where we want the new hardware to go to on front wall under bay window"

We have noticed when neighbours have had this done contractors working on behalf of openreach  turn up unannounced and start moving chippings etc without gaining premission from house owner, is this normal?

When the openreach engineer comes to finally connect things and make sure it work and put the points were we want it Id would appreciate experiences of this and also do you regret having it done?

Re: Outside work done before full fibre installation

Use the address option on this checker

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/

What does it show for your address , below is the return for a fully ducted property.

our  records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential UG Feed with no anticipated issues.

If your address is something like ‘built to the curtilage, hard’ , then there will be an small excavation ( thin trench) from the footpath to house wall  , this can be ( within reason ) where you would prefer it to be , it doesn’t have to be where near where the existing copper service is ,  a termination block is fitted on the wall and another cable ran to the internal location of the ONT , again within reason , where you want it , but the location needs to have a  power outlet , 2 if the router is going to be in the same place.

Normally the route for the excavation footpath to the house needs the householder agreement especially if it’s through hard landscaping, if it’s lawn , after a few weeks it’s unlikely to be any visible evidence of the cable route, if your neighbours didn’t get this curtesy, that’s unfortunate but not the norm .

Re: Outside work done before full fibre installation

A sketch of where the ‘toby box’ or duct marker is in the footpath ( I’ve assumed one exists ) in relation to the property, with where your preferred location for the CSP etc. is OK , but obviously it’s the OR techs or OR contractors opinion that will matter more , it’s worth having in mind that there could be other buried services that may influence where ( or more accurately where not ) the trench can be placed, TBH , soft surface like grass, or easily reinstated finishes like gravel are not much of a challenge, it’s surfaces like imprinted concrete, or resin bonded driveways that cause the householder to say ‘No’ as those surfaces ( if there is no alternative route ) will show scars , and OR won’t resurface and entire driveway
