Re: Smart hub 3

Go to solution

Given that for ages we have been told that changing to DV is 'simple' - just plug your old phone (or DECT base station) into the green port on the back of the SH2, it would appear now that the SH3 does not have a green phone socket at all! Is that true?

As far as I can tell, the 'solution' is to use a Network Adaptor instead. Seems a complicated and cumbersome solution to me. Also the SH2 socket has a REN of 4, whereas apparently the Adaptor is only 2, which further reduces the extent to which residential customers can support their old systems with minimal change.

In effect therefore the 'free' Adaptor that we get for changing to DV is actually needed to support a deficiency in the SH3 and we will have to buy another adaptor if we still need once elsewhere .

Is that true? No. The residential Smarthub 3 has a phone socked. The BT Business Smarthub 3 does not.

Re: Smart hub 3

The business version of the hub 3 does not support DV.  (It never did because industry tends to use VoIP instead).  As I understand it the new domestic version of the Smart Hub 3 does have the socket.

REN really referred to support for the old mechanical bell systems.  Modern phones use electronic ringers and so REN is not as important as it was.

There is supposedly smart hub 3 !!!!on eBay rear of device shows green socket for conventional phone  plug. Haven’t seen any official specs yet so have to wait and watch but doubt they will be supplying these smart hub 3 for existing residential customers unless you’re reconracting or new customer

Using a SH2 and a SH3 with DV

Go to solution

I came across an existing thread on this subject, but then lost it, so sorry if this is a repeat question.

Comsider a FTTP connection to a SH3. Re-use the old SH2 purely as a network switch to provide more Ethernet ports.  Turn off the DHCP server, change the IP address etc on the SH2. AIUI so far that will work.

Now....suppose currently there is old analogue phone(s) connected into the DV phone on the SH2. The SH3 does not have such a port. Is it possible still to support the legacy  kit through the SH2 rather than having to (say) use a Network Adaptor paired to the SH3?

Why does everyone keep repeating the inaccuracy that the SH3 doesn't have a phone port? The RESIDENTIAL SH3 has a phone port, the Business hub 3 doesn't.

Which you were told in another thread!!!!

In any event, only the hub connected to line has the ability for DV, the secondary hub does not have DV connectivity.

Re: Using a SH2 and a SH3 with DV

Why use the SH2 as a switch?

You can buy an 8 port switch for under £20 and they're just plug and play.  No faff setting them up, just one connection to the SH3 and plug everything else into the switch.

And , as been said several times now, the "Smart Hub 3"'s being advertised on eBay etc. are actually the business version and do not support DV.   The real Smart Hub 3 does have a phone socket, but buyer beware!
