Re: Using a SH2 and a SH3 with DV

Go to solution

Noted, thanks

That was what I had seen previously 🙂 which is why I had thought that the residential SH3 did have a phone socket.

But every time I've tried to download any sort of user guide for the SH3 from the BT website I just get one that does not show or mention any phone socket. See https://www.bt.com/content/dam/bt/help/broadband/smart-hub-3/ug-bt-smart-hub-3-fttp.pdf

Anyone know please where to find the equivalent for the residential version? I can't download anything from what is shown in Message 6 as I have no means of scanning the QR code.

If the residential version does indeed have a DV socket then no problem, I was only proposing to use the SH2 as a possible alternative, but not necessary now. In any case, while the SH3 would have a BBU, the SH2 or a Network Adaptor would not 😞

@Daedalus2000

If you look at the date of the page from the link you posted you will see it is dated 2025.

The residential Smarthub 3 was not brought out and made available until 2026.

The link I posted is on the Internet and is easily found.

If you read the instructions for the QR code in the link I posted it tells you it is to download the MyBT app and it tells you it is on the Playstore or Apple store.

You do not need to use the QR code to get to those stores or to download the MyBT app.

Do you have a SH3 or are you just wanting to get one from somewhere and if so why?

Noted, thanks, but I have nothing on which I can run the BT App.

You can log onto your MyBT using a computer.

You can set up the SM3 without using the MyBT app.

Given what you have already posted I doubt you would need or use any of the features on the MyBT app and you will manage fine with logging onto your MyBT with a computer.

Re: Using a SH2 and a SH3 with DV

Go to solution

Last month BT sent me a letter to say that I was being upgraded to DV (staying on FTTC) and that they needed to send me a new router. No reason given.

Given that I already have a SH2 on my FOTC connection I assumed that they must be sending me a SH3 - hence my interest in that model - after all, why would they send me just another SH2? So I wrote to BT to get confirmation that I would be getting a residential SH3.

Their reply today is that I can not have a SH3 because (a) it will not work with my broadband service and (b) it will not support the new DV. Eh???? Once again, no explanation given, so I am baffled as to why that should be the case? Are there any underlying technical differences that might cause this problem please?

Just curious, as it seems a weird situation.

Re: Using a SH2 and a SH3 with DV

Ah, that puts 2 and 2 together.

Firstly, I believe the early version of the SH2 did not support DV, so you may need one of the later models for your change to DV.  Secondly, I believe the SH3 does not support FTTC connection, only Full Fibre FTTP.

I might be contradicted on those points, as I am not an ex-BT employee and so I'm going on what I seem to have heard over the past few years.

Re: Using a SH2 and a SH3 with DV

Well, going back to the detail provided previously in message 6, that illustrates quite clearly AIUI  that (a) there is a 'broadband' port and also (b) cable and filter for connection to FTTC.
Which is precisely why I was asking BT to confirm that I would be getting a SH3 with those features, as well as the WAN port for later upgrade to FTTP.

Sadly, so far, every time thay have given me a specific piece of information upon which I have relied for planning my upgrade, they eventually - after persistent questioning - admit that I have been mis-informed 😞

Well, I did say I might be wrong.  I’m a retired IT tech, so I’m pretty knowledgeable on that side of things.  Not so much on BT equipment.

Sorry I couldn't help.

Much the same here 🙂 Perhaps that's the problem - I can spot poor design or corporate b*** s**t a mile off 🙂
