Does it really matter if BT won’t give you one like i got without upgrading 

if you really want the hub 3 just buy from a 3rd party 

Even  Amazon are selling this ! (3rd party)

@busybee3  Just because the SmartHub 3 is being sold on Amazon doesn’t mean it’s legit. The people selling them are Marketplace sellers. Who knows where those sellers obtained those hubs from.

Not once have I seen a Moderator for instance confirm or deny that BT/EE flog their own routers off to sellers who them market them on online platforms or whether those units sold on those platforms are legitimate sales.

If BT aren’t bothered or more likely cannot be bothered to ensure their hubs aren’t advertised for sale on popular public market place platforms, then morals are irrelevant. BT could undoubtedly brick hubs that aren’t legitimately registered to customers if they so wished but clearly they don’t.

This whole "stolen from BT" is comical. 

For the record ebay cex and amazon don't fence stolen goods 

Anyone who's ever had the misfortune to have to return goods back to BT will confirm BT are a bastion of incompetence 

Right from the DT 4000 to the smart hub 3 BT pvr's and routers have found their way to the open market by incompetence not malice

Not sure where ‘malice’ comes into it. There is no sign BT are authorising these sellers so that makes it something else entirely.

Given security threats are everywhere people should be very wary of installing a device into their network where provenance is unsure.
