Upload speed capped to 50Mbs after firmware update v0.39.01.04077-BT (SH2)

Go to solution

I'm on the FTTP 500Mbs package, before my upload was 70Mbs now it is 50Mbs after this months v0.39.01.04077-BT firmware update I recieved 2 days ago.

I have tried:

  • Factory resetting SH2
  • Restarting SH2
  • Restarting ONT

I tested the upload speed on speedtest.net and by uploading a Youtube video then monitoring the upload in task manager. I also have done a speed test on my phone ruling out any issues with my PC/Ethernet/Browser, it is also capped at 50Mbs.

It could be just as simple as local congestion and even you own local devices!

Why would I think this?  Well, your download ping is absolutely fantastic, but that upload delay is monstrous!

*From a Poco F3, so hardly the most modern phone, speed tests from the router read at 934/104, with lower latencies.

*EDIT: Looking at your status bar are you sure that's not your mobile connection rather than your WiFi!

Hi @GeekOfBroadband, sorry your upload is capped at 50Mbs since the firmware update.

Please leave the hub connected and it should automatically lift the cap. If the upload hasn't returned to normal after 72hrs post back and let us know and we'll be happy to help you further with it.

Cheers

John

Yea that was on Wi-Fi, just to make sure I tested again and turned moblie data off.

It's pretty fast to reach 50Mbs then it just hits a wall and can't go beyond it making me think theres a hard limit on BT's end. I will wait to see if anything improves then give an update.

It's definitely odd.  The most glaring thing that strikes me though is that while your download delay is one-third of my own, the upload delay you are getting is 10x that of my own (and I suspect I may have been connecting through the mesh extender at the time).

@Crimliar for some reason best known to BT, the hub has an initial upload cap that usually gets removed automatically after 48hrs but sometimes gets stuck and requires manual intervention. It is an oft reported problem. A firmware upgrade seems to reset the cap.

I've never really paid much attention to the upload latency before, but mine never drops below 90 on WiFi, and never below 50 over ethernet.

I'm on Fibre 900.

I started off on Fibre 100 and had 20 upload. I've been on Fibre 900 since February and still stuck on 20. My hub was upgraded last night and upload still on 20

@why_oh_why

if hub had firmware update last night then give it a few days as it should correct itself to the right up speed but if no change in 3 days post back and mods will help
