is full fibre compulsory
Had an email saying I placed an order for full fibre, but I haven't placed an order for anything. I have been given a date for an engineer to come. Do I have to have full fibre? and is it compulsory?
I am already on fibre 1, I only surf the net so do I have to have this as I haven't ordered it.
Many thanks

Re: is full fibre compulsory
@Greyeyes12 Please follow the instructions in the link below and post the results here. Please include the footer notes which will indicate if you are also in a FTTP full fibre priority area which means only FTTP full fibre is available to you and that you are in a copper stop sell are

If you are in a full fibre priority area a d under a copper stop sell restrictions then changes to your broadband package, moving to digital voice or moving providers will trigger the move to full fibre (FTTP) and is mandatory as copper based services would no longer be available to be offered.

Re: is full fibre compulsory
"is it compulsory?"
I was just thinking about that myself a few moments ago - prompted by watching contractors in the manhole outside my house pulling in new fibres as part of the network build in preparation for Openreach offering Full Fibre FTTP in my area.
Whilst it may not be compulsory to move to Full Fibre now, if you do not change internet providers, (as stated by @jac_95 ), I assume that at some time in the future, the whole copper network, (FTTC), will be switched off because the equipment in the cabinets will become uneconomic or impossible to maintain - in the same way that the PSTN will be switched off in the near future because of exchange equipment problems?
If that happens, then it will obviously become a case of: migrate to Full Fibre or lose service?

Re: is full fibre compulsory
@Greyeyes12 just because you have fibre, you don't have to have a high speed package.
For a given package, price is the same regardless of delivery medium.

Re: is full fibre compulsory
No, technically not.
Although if you sign up to a new Provider they may only sell you FTTP, especially when/if your Exchange goes into Stop Sell Status.
Also at some point BT/Openreach will want rid of the Metallic Path Network so will no doubt tell people its switch or go without. That’ll not be for years though.
